Well, in order not to be unfair, I need to point out that my negative evaluation is about May/05, that is, last Sunday. My husband and I had already gone to the bar a few months ago on a Friday night and we had a great time. served with different drinks and food that was worth every penny, especially the nachos. So we decided to do A reserve for Sunday (May /05) and we were excited to take a friend, but it was totally disappointing, first we realized that the same nachos came completely different and a smaller portion, and we also noticed that the drinks were different Maybe because it was a busier day, but it was May/05 we were expecting something special!!!! . My mojito came completely warm, that's right warm!!!! I myself had to take the ice out of the water and put it in it because we noticed that all the servers were busy, the drinks were totally different, it didn't have the same quality, well while we were talking I was having my drink and the waitress asked us if we wanted anything else, but at that moment no, because I was still drinking my drink but simply and she threw the check on the table and we were taken by surprise at our table because we were there enjoying the drink, so I was very embarrassed because we had told our friend that we had found an exceptional Mexican place. In two hours we spent the amount of $221, because we still wanted to give a chance to maybe order a better portion, but everyone saw it completely different from the first day. After leaving the place the next day we realized that they had been taken from my husband's card a value of $250!!! I believe this is totally unethical and I am totally frustrated because I honestly would not like to give negative feedback but as a consumer and client I feel injured and I am here simply exercising my own freedom of expression. Right now it's a place we don't expect...
Read moreGood location, close to train, an exit off the Bronx River and on a neat little strip. The bar may be the best aspect! Tried both The Volcano & the Tipsy FRose` and the bartender’s mixology grade scored high marks.. The Volcano has a happy sweet/pina type of vibe, but the rum mixture is delicious, and the presentation is equally as appealing.
The food was mid + pricey given the sizing. Don’t think the value to proportion ratio is there given the authenticity is a miss as well. I’d liken this “Mexican” taco place to the fast-food Chipotle tier & not that of the flavorful culturally legitimate cuisine spots.
Tipsy Paella was a bit too saucy, and the flavor was off. Grilled Octopus & Chorizo dish was flat and not much other than 1 piece of meat slated over a thin layer of beans (not served with rice/veg or anything). The tacos are your safest go-to option; codfish shrimp, braised short rib Al Pastor & Brussel Taco were decent. I’m always excited to try veggie taco options and the brussel sprout taco works!
Dessert: Kahula Tres Leches needs some more attention as it doesn’t strike as best quality Mexican dessert. Not spongy or soaked enough, so the leche isn’t flowing through at all hence making the taste sad. Overall, I think this spot has a nice happy hour potential and that’s always a...
Read moreMy only reason for writing this review is in the hopes that either the owner, or the staff will read this and make some changes. I didn't mind so much that the tacos were remarkably small (6" maybe), as are most things nowadays, but for the most part they were completely tasteless and void of any salt, or spice, or seasoning. I'm being generous if I say that the tacos had a tablespoon of filling because both my wife and daughter finished their tacos in two bites. The food was bland beyond belief. Even my wife who never complains about anything, turned to me and said "I'm sorry for taking you here as these are the worst tacos I've ever had". We didn't complain or send anything back as this was our first time there. We chalked it up to just having a bad experience and we will most likely never return. The bartender was great though and at least he made our time there enjoyable. This is a Mexican restaurant for goodness sake! USE SOME SPICE...
