You want to talk about amazing pizza… then let’s talk the original Bill Bobe’s pizza! I’ve been coming here all my life, as has my father. It has been in business for many, many decades, and if a line wrapped around the building waiting for them to open isn’t enough proof to convince you that they’re very much a strong local favorite for a reason, well then I just feel sorry for your level of basic common sense, lol. If you’re from out of town, then this will be a unique pizza experience for you. It’s very much a hometown, one of a kind pizza. The crust is very, very thin but not crispy. Think New York style thin, but it’s not crispy at the bottom, and not chewy on the top. It’s very unique. When it comes out hot and fresh, you’ll need a fork. It’s not undercooked or doughy by any means, it’s just how it’s prepared. It’s handmade, hand rolled, and hand tossed. You can’t buy anywhere or even recreate this masterpiece dough if you tried, and I’d take that statement to the bank! You’d be hard pressed to find a pizza crust that even resembles a crust as unique as this one. After it’s cooled just a tad bit though, like just after a 10 minutes or so where it’s still very warm and satisfying temp, it’s more easy to eat with hands only. They do have a deep dish crust, but I’ve never tried and probably never will unless someone offers me a slice. I’m sticking with the original 100% always because it is simply just that amazing. The sauce is very tomatoey. It’s light on seasonings, but I will tell you, it is PERFECT that way. I’m someone who enjoys and prefers bold flavors, and this is not a bold sauce whatsoever but I absolutely love it. It is also as fresh as fresh can be, and you notice that freshness coming from all layers of this pizza. Again, it is also very unique. The vegetables are sliced extremely thin, like paper thin most times, and the meats are always fresh and also very finely crumbled in the way it’s processed, except for the pepperonis. They are basic pizza sliced pepperonis. The cheese is also excellent quality. VERY SMOOTH, stringy like a nice melted pizza mozzarella needs to be. It all seems so simple, right? Simple crust, simple sauce, simple ingredients. But the pizza is anything but simple in flavor, texture, and overall eating experience. The marriage of the unique styles of the crust, sauce, thinly sliced veggies and fresh, finely crumbled meats, along with the Italian herbs sprinkled on top, make the perfect combination that is Bill Bobe’s epic pizza. The Farouk is their trademark pizza. It includes pepperoni, mild finely crumbled sausage, green peppers, onions, mushrooms (I do without the mushrooms for my own personal preference), tomato sauce, plenty of cheese, and that epic homemade fresh crust. Everything, and I do mean everything, is freshly made, freshly cut, and made by hand. The breadsticks are so delicious, they could be a meal of their own because once you sink your teeth into that first one, paired with either their spicy nacho cheese sauce or tomato sauce, you won’t want to stop eating them. No kidding, Bill Bobe’s pizza and breadsticks are so delicious and satisfying, that when we go to eat out there, we always buy an additional pizza and order of breadsticks to take home, on top of whatever leftovers we may have. Do yourself a favor and just try it. Dear Lord just try it. You will not forget it and you will not regret it. Btw, I didn’t even touch on the amazing sandwiches and salad bar. Yep, everything is worth trying. It’s pricier than franchise pizza places of course, but beyond worth it. Order a little bit of everything if you have the money. The leftovers heated up are very satisfying as well. You seriously won’t regret it. PLEASE make sure you only go to Bill Bobe’s on 6th street. That’s what I’m reviewing here. There are other Bobe’s pizzas in Vincennes and nearby cities, but this is the original, and none of the others are anything even close to the perfection that is Bill...
Read moreMaybe it's a local bias thing, but there is no better pizza anywhere, hands down. Order the Farouk, it has a ground sausage (not spicy Italian), pepperoni, extremely thin sliced green peppers and onions, and mushrooms (which I leave off). If you want the whole Bill Bobe's experience, do not order the thick crust. I mean it is good too, but nothing, and I mean nothing, beats their regular crust. It is very, very thin but not crispy in the least! It is somewhat of a New York style crust, but thinner if you can imagine that. When it comes out piping hot from the oven, you'll have to use a fork to eat until it cools off a bit first, or you'll probably loose all your toppings. The sauce is not complicated whatsoever. Basic, clean, smooth tomato sauce that compliments the other ingredients as a whole. And definitely try the breadsticks with the tomato sauce and the cheese sauce. You could literally make a meal purely out of these bad boys! Not generic, not store bought, just amazing! They do offer a salad bar, and although small and rather basic, it is still all you need and delicious. Stroms, hot ham and cheese, also delicious. Try the hot ham and cheese with pizza sauce added (ask for pizza sauce on the sandwich). You won't regret it. Every time we visit Bill Bobe's, we always order extra pizzas and breadsticks to take home. I do not eat leftovers, but I will eat Bill Bobe's everyday until it's gone! Fair warning though, the building is very small, and they are always packed on Friday and Saturday night. People get there and wait in line outside for it to open at 4 (Eastern time), and it stays busy until close. So, expect to wait for a table and service, but not by a whole lot, maybe 30 minutes, and definitely don't let that stop you. It is well beyond worth the wait. We always show up 10 minutes before opening. Sound advice. Even if 4 seems early to eat supper, who cares! Eat an earlier lunch to accommodate. Or, do like I do and not eat all day so there's plenty of room for pizza and...
Read moreOK I can't remember when I started eating Bobes Pizza but I moved to Indianapolis in 1969 and I was eating them then I think. Everytime I came back home I would get two large sausage pizzas to go, I would eat 1 almost before I got home and the family would reheat and eat the other BUT today the first thing I did after checking into the hotel is order a large sausage pizza but it was different. Hardly no sauce, no greace ( I know but I enjoyed the grease they had on their pizza). Is there new owners? The young man who answered the phone to take the order needs a lesson in customer service, the second guy when I checked on order great. My Granddaughter and I came all the way from indy for this pizza and again I was a little disappointed. Maybe different sausage, a little thicker dough, I don't know not as good as they used to be. This will not make sense but less sauce again, not as greasy, and more cheese. I would rather have the thinner crust, more sauce and less cheese, yes you read this right less cheese. The cheese kinda covered the taste of the sausage....but one last thing, it was completely gone so it...
