Happened to be in the area and I'd been wanting to try this place, based on other reviews. It was early lunchtime on a weekend and I was seated immediately, with my preference for a booth. Booths were well worn, but comfortable. Veey attentive service - I got water immediately, empty dishes quickly disappeared, and when my waiter heard me blow my nose, he brought over a couple paper napkins without even asking. The napkins that come with the utensils are the premium kind that feel like fabric but are still disposable. I especially appreciate this in a restaurant with lots of sauce.
I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai and Pad See Ew with Pork. Spice levels are 1-5 and the waiter said most people don't go above 3. I ordered level 4 for the pork dish. The Pad Thai was lovely. It came with the crushed peanuts in a side dish and a large lime wedge. The sauce was sweet but not too sweet, and the tamarind flavor really shines through. I could have used a few more shrimp, but there was a generous amount of egg and onion. The Pad See Ew was fresh and flavorful, but I tasted and saw so little spice, I asked the waiter if he told the kitchen to take it easy on me. I would have thought what he brought was a level 1 mild, but he confirmed it was 4, and told me to ask for 'thai spicy' next time, which I assume is 5. That's either very weak, or a huge jump.
I also got some crab rangoon and it was unlike any I'd had before. Rather than a wonton or dumplings shape, it was shaped like a mini empanada. The filling was what I expected, but the dipping sauce was much different and I loved it. It was a smooth brown sauce that had the sweetness of what I expected but a peanut flavor profile. I would eat bottles of it at home, given the chance.
Menu prices were very reasonable and I can't remember the last time I ordered an appetizer for under $5. I'll probably try it again, to sample more of the menu and try for a...
Read moreI'm so sad at what this place has become. This used to be my favorite restaurant in town. The food is great. But one day my husband asked the server if he had to specify the spice level when he orders the kung pao chicken because the last time he ordered it it didn't have any peppers in it like it usually does. When we were paying for our food this server accused us of treating her like our slave. What?! We were beside ourselves. We have always been friendly with this woman having pleasant conversations and tipping well. The only thing we could come up with was she didn't like the conversation about the peppers. On a separate occasion before this, when they started taking dine ins again after the pandemic, this same server(who I think is the manager?) complained about having dine in offered again and wished it stayed a take out only establishment. Didn't make me feel very welcome. It's been a long time since returning, and I wanted to give them another chance. But when we were seated tonight I saw this same woman whisper to our server and then he timidly came over and asked how we are doing and you could tell he was nervous to serve us. He asked for our drink order. When we asked if everything was ok because we were picking up a vibe he just walked away. So we decided that's that and walked out. So sad because my 12 year old son asked to eat here and loves the food. But we don't feel welcome there. Booths are falling apart. The restroom was flooded twice in the past with the same stall out of order. Just all around not what it used to be. The old location...
Read moreI decided to give this place a try recently. Upon arrival around lunchtime it was not very busy and I was seated right away. My waitress, Rasamy (I hope I spelled that correctly), was very accommodating and provided prompt, cordial service. When she introduced herself she very quickly, in the same breath as saying her name, briefly mentioned that some of the menu prices were incorrect. She did not elaborate on what items may be priced incorrectly, and due to the fact that when I placed my order she did not advise me that anything I ordered was going to be a different price, I assumed my selections were unaffected by their pricing errors. Well, you can imagine my shock when I received my bill, and not only were the prices of my selections misrepresented in the menu, the prices of some items were nearly doubled!! I suggest, rather than offering guests an extremely vague blanket statement, the pricing in the menus be updated immediately. In the interest of customer service, I cannot imagine this being a huge imposition, even if it requires them being reprinted completely.
On a positive note, the chicken lo mein and Thai iced tea that I ordered was by far the best I've had in recent memory. The chicken and noodles were prepared to perfection, and the Thai iced tea was far superior to any that I've experienced elsewhere. I do recommend this restaurant, but if you are at all budget conscious, be sure to specifically ask for prices of the items you are ordering...
