IMPORTANT UPDATE! - if you have celiac please note that the potatoes are NOT gluten free.
We dropped the truck off across the street for tire rotation so walked over here for breakfast. The gluten free selection (at least for breakfast) was very limited. I opted for a traditional 2 egg breakfast with an English muffin. Looked fresh baked and tasted pretty good. A bit thicker than I prefer personally, but tasted better than it looked. The bacon tasted like old grease, but the potatoes were great. 😋 My boyfriend enjoyed the same meal with sourdough toast.
The atmosphere was cozy, the staff friendly.
Second trip here. Today my boyfriend got blueberry pancakes with lemon curd. He said they were good, but a generous portion that he could not finish.
Third trip, lunch time. Not exactly impressed. Service was friendly. Food is edible, but ... nothing special. The bread on our sandwich was so lacking I actually gave up after three attempts and just ate the filling. Note how it's not even an actual slice. Just some pieces they put together, and on the bottom side (next to the plate), my guess would be so I wouldn't notice. 🙄 News flash - a sandwich is picked up. So, having two pieces as the bottom of my sandwich is the WORST idea. NOT appreciated. I ended up eating the filling with a fork. As for the filling - Pieces of a tomato 😐, cold meat (I get that it is a deli sandwich but I did ask for it to be heated, cucumber, a piece of cheese, avocado (hard to eat with a fork), and the teeny tiniest amount of arugula possible. Came served with a bag of chips. For $15. Way too expensive for scraps of food.
1/16/23 - Came to breakfast again today and Alaina (so?) Informed me that the hash browns are not gf. 😳 Now I know why I remarked on them being so tasty. 😞 They're breaded. 😞 She also informed me that there are more options for a gf breakfast than just an English muffin. Unfortunately I don't eat poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, nor seafood. 😐 Staff was very apologetic about the misinformation I had been given during past visits so props for that. Idk if we will be back, but if not, it will merely be a matter of my personal taste. Accidents happen and the reality is, when one has a dietary issue they take a risk when eating out so I am not holding that against them. My advice, if you eat here and have celiac, make sure you state your issue clearly to the waitstaff. My boyfriend's...
Read moreWow... I must say great atmosphere, cool people, but the qaulity of the food is a disappointment to say the least. I went tonight by myself whereas my last visit 8 months ago was with 5 other family members. The first visit was okay, I ordered a salad with shrimp and appetizers. My fam are all heavy meat eaters so they order entrees in which they were unsatisfied and was offered free dessert and a portion of the meal to be covered. That was something we didnt expect but was appreciated. I remember the dessert was amazing and that was why I wanted to go tonight. I had actually planned on eating elsewhere and just getting dessert from them but decided to give it another try. In a nut shell its not all of that, I spent $44 bucks on a Ceaser salad and a bowl of soup with 4 shrimp. Lol. I know there isnt much to a salad but geez more green leaf to support the $10 price you pay for it. My server Brittany was cool and friendly and accommodating. She tried her best. I asked for a bread roll for my soup and I was given two slices of HARD sesame bread that was actually turning yellow on the outside for lack of moisture. I was not cool with that at all but I am easy going so I duly noted that. Now lets get to this dessert. Smh smh SMH. not even what I remembered. They gave me a piece of carrot cake with all icing and no damn cake!!!. The crumpets of cake I did mange to taste was delicious but smothered in icing.... dis appointed. That was what I really wanted. The cookies... I ordered three to go for family and tasted a piece of one and decided I didnt want them. It was not worth it. I am no chef but I can tell that someone did not swift the flour well with the batter and the salt/baking powered ratio is off or non exsisting and too much egg because the cookie itself was stiff.. not to mention someone was heavy handed with the chocolate chips... in a nutshell that was a meal not worth the currency I exchange for it. That was a $20 meal. The salad and soup was not nasty but it was nothing to write home about... Just blog about 😊.. My conclusion is if you want to encourage a boogie menu and those kind of prices... I would encourage you to get the qaulity and qaunity to match. I had to come home to make some asparagus amd a crab cake after spending $50, I wont be going back anytime soon unless someone else wants...
Read moreOk- let me first say I usually love Bakers Crust, but it is something about the Hilltop location and I won’t be returning any time soon.
Here’s my experience: It was a very hot day so they didn’t have anyone to serve on the patio - no problem. I’ll order my food at the bar and just eat it on the patio. There was a swarm of flies at the bar. Not just one or two but an excessive amount of flies. GROSS. There were two bartenders - neither of them addressed me for a few minutes as I stood there looking lost. Finally I asked if someone could take my order. One young lady cheerily said she could. After She took my order, she handed me the machine and told me “leave a tip” first of all… I’m offended. I ALWAYS tip. There’s never going to be anyone that can say that I don’t tip well, and I don’t need a reminder to tip. I didn’t respond but I looked at her and proceeded to pay for my meal. That was out of line.
She didn’t give me any instructions for picking up my food or if I should wait outside for it - so I asked her. She said it would take 10-15 minutes… 15 minutes goes by and no one got my food. I happen to look up and the bartender who asked for the tip was leaving for the day. I inquired about my food and she said “I don’t know go in and ask…” at this point I’m fuming. But… I go in another young lady goes in the back gets a Togo bag and hands it to me.
When I get it, My food is not prepared properly. I ordered the Charleston chicken and avocado. The breading was coming off of the sandwich. The sandwich was very sloppily made - literally thrown together - it was missing bacon and one side of the chicken was rubbery which made me think it was undercooked. The tavern chips were good, though so no complaints there. However, I spent $25 that I can’t get back and I was so disgusted when I left.
So- If you like bakers crust, try Landstown or Norfolk for better service and food. Hilltop is always a bust for me. And - if you have ever seen Bar Rescue - the flies at the bar will make your...
