Here’s the good and the bad: We will start with the bad to end on a positive note ….
The bad: you can feel the chaos as soon as you walk in the restaurant, there is absolutely NO STRUCTURE or leadership directing the team on what to do, where to go or how to serve. We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order and another 30 minutes for someone to come back to the table to take our food order; which we never received after an hour of waiting. The menus were literally a sheet of paper with I guess what we called the daily specials on them. Nothing like what we seen on their Facebook page advertising the entrees. I personally think if we are going to go that route and use paper they need to print enough copies so they’re not given to the next customer with food residue on them. Every employee was walking around like they really didn’t know what to do because every time you blinked the door was opening with more customers coming through. After an hour and a 1/2 we ended up leaving and going elsewhere to eat…
The good: the staff that did talk to us was very friendly and extremely apologetic for everything we experienced. While we waited to be seated an older gentleman was telling us how delicious the food was and he can’t wait to come back. His exact words were, “It tastes just like Mommas”…. The restaurant is very nice and has so much potential if they can find a STRONG LEADER to run that place. It’s located near the only mall that Hampton Roads seems to have left so there is no time for weak links or this business will fail. I think the turn out was a lot more than they expected and they are just not prepared for it AT ALL!!! 2 key things that will help them; get a hostess at the door who knows how to direct the amount of traffic coming in and get a beast in the kitchen who knows how to run the line and this place will rock. If there’s a wait there’s a wait don’t overwhelm the cooks trying to seat everyone at once because that’s just making people mad and leaving them to never come back. We will try again in about 90 days to give y’all time to iron out the wrinkles. Best of luck to you all, keep your head up, keep smiling, keep believing and know God didn’t bring you this far to only bring...
Read moreWe decided to eat here because the security guard said that the food was good… It wasn’t. Each member in our group rated the food a 1 on a 10 point scale. It took a long time to get our meals and when they arrived it didn’t look very appetizing. I had the curry chicken, rice and black eyed peas. The waitress asked if I wanted dark or white meat and I told her dark. She told me if I wanted rice that I had to order it as a side, so I did. She asked if I wanted the rice on the side or under the curry, I told her under the curry. The meal that was given to me was white meat and the rice was on the side. It was not good and tasted watery. The black eyed peas were the most flavorful thing I had and they needed seasoning.
My husband had the liver and onions, fried okra and brussel sprouts. The okra was cooked too long and a bit burnt. The liver and onions had no seasoning and he put salt and pepper trying to give it some flavor but he said it didn’t help. He did say the sprouts weren’t too bad but he didn’t finish them.
My daughter had the turkey wings and they lacked seasoning as well. The gravy on her turkey wings looked the same as the gravy on the beef liver that my husband had. It was very thick and looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp but was not hot. The turkey tasted greasy… not good. She had macaroni and cheese and collard greens. She and her friend said the Mac and cheese wasn’t anything spectacular and almost tasted like Stouffers. She said that the greens weren’t that good either.
My daughter’s friend ordered the ribs, Mac and cheese and okra. The okra was burnt as well. The ribs were dry and looked like they squirted a bunch of barbecue sauce on top. She attempted to eat the food but gave her meal a 1 on a scale of 1-10.
The cornbread was okay. It was very dark on top and looked like it was cooked too much. It had a cake like consistency but wasn’t very buttery or sweet. We asked for butter to help with the flavor.
We were all very disappointed with the quality of the food. This was our first time patronizing this establishment and we won’t be back. The experience and food was not what...
Read moreMy sister and I were recommended this place by a friend and below was our experience 02-02-25.
The Food: flavorful but serving lukewarm sides alongside piping hot entrees is ridiculously unacceptable.
The service: TRASH!!!! We stood and waited to be seated for fifteen minutes. We were ushered to a completely empty booth/bar area to wait ANOTHER 26 minutes for drinks and food orders to be taken. The food came out in a semi timely manner but was WRONG. Once fixed, the entrees we received had steam coming from them (good sign of freshness) but the sides were lukewarm. I asked to send them back for sides that were hot and was told by the bar “manager” they do not take items back that customers deem unacceptable. But if I wanted “new” sides, that I’d have to add them to my bill…
I didn’t argue. I just asked for the check from the hostess, since the bar manager disappeared for 17 minutes. And waited an additional 20 to check out, in a line, because apparently, call in orders take precedent over patrons choosing to dine in..
Another note: Having an unofficial church service/devotional IN THE LITERAL MIDDLE of the restaurant with loud shouting on the microphone & ZERO separation from patrons attempting to enjoy their food is not the way to go. It could’ve been planned better and other patrons agreed
One more thing: Please update the menu prices. We saw one price and were charged another by a combative male host when we asked for a price breakdown…
I personally choose to never patronize this establishment again. There were entirely too many inconsistencies for a first time visit between the lukewarm food (time & temperature abuse), rude waiter/host /bar “manager”, the wait time, loud sermon and overall lack of accountability. Hopefully, you guys’ experience will be...
