06/2020: FIRST TIME (4⭐)Drinks and food were outstanding! But service was slow and they ran out of the one item I most wanted on the menu—the crab dip...
06/2025: RECENT UPDATE!! (5⭐) First time back here in VB and this is the FIRST place I came! I STILL remembered after all this time how supernaturally AWESOME their pizza is. I like how they are innovative and hold great pride in the making of their food, particularly pizza! It is sooo refreshing to eat at a particular restaurant that doesn't try to hype up their food by vicariously attaching their cuisine to a more famous brand or popular regional style.
Instead of claiming their pizza is the "best" version of someone else's style of pizza (i.e. NJ/NYC-style, Chicago-style, Naples -style, Cali-style...). They don't even try to claim those titles in relation to their own pies being the best in the local area (VB, Norfolk, Newport News, Hampton) or claim theirs is the local "standard". They refuse to ride on the coattails of established classics, opting to become a standalone classic in their OWN right. They create and stand by their OWN creations. The cocktails are AMAZING & STRONG! They have an extensive drink menu and two bars (one inside and one on the outside porch where you can enjoy your pie when the weather permits). My boyfriend and I just came back from celebrating both our birthdays, we ate here 3 x's—even though we were only in the area for 3 nights! I don't know what kinda Voodoo they're using in that kitchen, but I'm sure glad to find a pizza chain that hasn't gone down in quality seemingly overnight. No need to name them, but we all know they're a far cry from the pizza they produced in our 80s and 90s childhood years. The only type of pizza worth eating now are small, local mom-and-pop joints whose end product can ALSO be "hit or miss" @ x's😩 I was skeptical of eating from a pizza chain ever again, but I'm glad I gave Chico's a chance. 5 years have passed since I first tasted their pizza and thank God they stayed true to themselves and refuse to betray loyal customers by changing or trying to keep up with trendy pop-culture cooking styles or unnecessary, hard to find exotic ingredients. Although their pizza is a unique distinction in itself, it is definitely considered a "CLASSIC" and follows in the same great traditions and standards that have almost completely disappeared. Even the atmosphere is the quintessential old school pizza joints of the 80s and 90s complete with darkened interior, flashy posters, iconic pop culture wall art (Wu-Tang memorabilia, skateboards, surf boards, sports flags & banners etc) and the ultimate 80s pastime —ARCADE GAMES! You can also try your luck at their gambling machines. Of course they had like literally almost a dozen giant televisions mounted to the walls where any sports known to man can be watched simultaneously. Service was so incredible as well. AWESOME 😎 thanks for not...
Read moreI have to agree with the person below… I came here after a long work day and to kickoff a birthday weekend. Upon entering, the location was desolate with what I guess was live music. Despite the initial thoughts, I figured it’s Chicho’s pizza and that’s what I came to “relive”.
I ordered a key lime crush, which on the menu looks like a standard crush with crushed ice. However mine was a glass with a few ice cubes, brownish water that looked like bar mat liquid and a retired sad lime. (The drink was basically some mixture of lime juice and watered down ice) My wife was ready to leave at this point but I did not want to give up and ordered the Chesapeake special.
The pizza that arrived should in no way be associated with the name Chicho’s… it was dry, barely any sauce, and the meat was scarce. However the chunks of garlic were in extreme abundance, hidden under the minimal amount of cheese as though they may be remnants of the missing meat or other toppings said to be on this recipe.
This pizza should be called the garlic special if anything. At this point I gave up, took the advice of my wife and left. The waitress was kind and asked if we wanted the pizza re-made but given the failure up until that point I was not tempered enough to take that risk.
End result: hungry, thirsty,...
Read moreWent to Chicho's on Shore Drive Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. and it was pretty dead. We were the only ones sitting at a booth/table; waitress takes our drink orders, takes our pizza order (Carolina BBQ pizza) and she asks if we want the coleslaw on the pizza, or on the side, and we ask for it on the side. When she brings the pizza out, I asked if she's bringing out the coleslaw and she says "It comes on the pizza"... [then why did you ask me??]. OK, no big deal, we eat the pizza which was absolutely delicious, and then we sit and wait and wait and wait. She never checked on our table again after dropping off the pizza. After we ate it we sat waiting for about 10 minutes for the check which never came. I had to approach the bartender to ask for the check, and then bring the payment up to the bartender since our waitress was so busy in the corner flirting with someone.
The pizza was divine, but this location is not. Not only was the service awful, but the bathrooms were beyond disgusting; one didn't have a functioning lock and the other one had something disgusting running down the front of it (use your imagination 🤢).
I recommend Chicho's Pizza, but avoid the Shore Drive location at all costs until the owners can get their staff to clean properly and actually wait on...
