Crumbl — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Crumbl is a very popular place to buy cookies. We have stopped and looked at different times when we were in the shopping center for other reasons. We have hesitated to purchase because the cookies are huge with several servings to each cookie and we always want to try different flavors. Unfortunately, the smaller size is only available for large catering orders. Crumbl is open late on weekends and there is often a line of people outside. I finally decided to buy some for the family to sample and picked out 4 flavors. The main ingredients that stood out in all of the cookies were salt and sugar. Extremely salty and extremely sweet. 4 cookies, $16. No one would eat them. They went in the trash. Since the small piece I tasted shot my blood sugar to 219, I decided to look on the website, find the actual nutrition and serving size and cut the cookies into actual serving size portions. I used a kitchen scale for accurately weighing the portions. I posted a photo here of the actual serving size of each cookie. I called about refunds and was told to email and received a quick reply that no refunds are given for not liking the cookies. Although the website states real butter is used, we didnt taste the butter in the cookies and Crumbl uses “vanillin” which is artificial vanilla flavoring and other artificial flavors. Walked in, place was empty, but the bakery itself had a really clean look and feel. However, neither of the two employees behind the counter bothered to greet us. My friend noticed the tablets so we placed our order for one Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie. Before I had even finished typing my email to get my receipt, the woman behind the counter shouted my name (odd because my friend and I were the only two customers in there) and placed a small pink box on the counter. We grabbed our one cookie and left with either employee barely giving us a second glance.

Now, the cookie: It wasn't fresh outta the oven warm, but it wasn't cold or hard. It was nicely crisp on the edges and incredibly fluffy and cakelike in the center. The texture was great. However, the flavor is missing those key butter, brown sugar, and vanilla notes. It was sweet and chocolatey, but it just didn't cut it for me as a homemade, delightful cookie. It was okay, but just that, and not what I would want to pay $4.93 for..

Pros: Clean bright bakery, straightforward and quick ordering on the tablets, they have a nice variety of flavors offered.

Cons: Staff didn't seem particularly welcoming, cookie was just okay but nothing special.

Overall, the other flavor offerings intrigue me, but I'd hope to see a little more friendly attitude from the staff. Also, for a cookie company, you would think the Chocolate Chip would be their best offering. If I decide to try them again, I will...

Walking in this place, there was no help for a first time customer. The sign said enter here, but others were placing their orders on tablets mounted to the wall. Several customers were having issues with the credit card reader (the only way to pay here apparently). It wanted us to manually enter our credit card numbers and security codes. Although some customers did it, I wasn't comfortable with all the cameras around. I don't have to manually enter card information when ordering at Domoshi, Shake Shack or Panera who all use similar ordering systems. I definitely was not greeted and there didn't seem to be any employee available or willing to help with the card reader problem, so I walked out after making a special trip for these supposedly great cookies. Which by the way, they're almost $5 a cookie before tax. The screen then prompts you to pay a dollar + if you want any type of celebration sticker placed on the box. Then, asks if you want to leave a tip, $2 being the smallest suggested amount. Lol, a tip?! Here's a tip, greet customers and help them out when ordering.
