We tried this place because of Groupon. I thought that this might be good as we have a Greek person in our household. The food is subpar as it largely has been preprepared, and is not made to order. The fries are bountiful, but also taste like they were frozen. The gyro itself was marginal and the meat was not particularly flavorful, and the veggies were large and not cut up. There is not evidently a passion for authenticity as many of the Greek restaurant staples one would expect like pastisio, mousaka, and Greek biscuits were missing.
The service was only the required amount. Questions about the menu? Was referred to page one as opposed to explaining the offering on page two. Need something else? Server did stay around long enough to find out and seemed more interested in the animal planet programming.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is near pandering to Greek culture. There were the stereo typical pictures of Greek orthodox churches and oceans, and Greek flags, The furniture and tableware and table cloths considering that our order came to close to $51 before the coupon are not befitting of what one should expect. It felt a lot like a cafeteria merged with a bunch of Greek touches.
We did inquire as to who the Greek person is on staff, to see if we knew anyone, and we were told that no Greeks were involved (and so it seems!). The major takeaway that we had was that we were right across the street from the Simple Greek in Chesapeake, though, due to Groupon, we chose to go to this place. Orapax, Simple Greek or Ammos are far more deserving of the word Greek in their name than this place. It failed on so many fronts as a Greek establishment and...
Read moreFirst, let me start this review with the fact that I’m local ex military and have actually BEEN to the area this food is about to be from.
That said, I’ve ordered from this place previously through Uber Eats or Postmates. I trusted it for an anniversary dinner tonight to eat in.
I ordered the falafel platter. It came as the wrap, which is an over $6 difference. I’ve had falafel in Israel, Cyprus, and Greece. Other times with this restaurant it’s been comparable. This time it was awful. Overcooked clearly and flattened. The tzatziki was uncomfortably thick, almost if it was bad. I grew up with it. It shouldn’t look like that. The lettuce was stringy, and the pita was soggy.
My husband had one of the platters (don’t hate, I don’t have HIS phone to check right now what exactly he ordered) and it came as a less expensive wrap again. He ordered the Greek salad in substitution of fries. It cost him $4 extra and he reported that “the feta was the only thing good on this salad.”
(TMI warning) The piece de resistance was when I used the bathroom (luckily we were home) and went to wash my hands. In 28 years of living I’m pretty sure I’ve never vomited all over my own hands unexpectedly while washing them. So I had fun cleaning that up and making sure the sink didn’t clog as well. Thank Gods our 4 year old did not eat the food (she was being picky with her pita pizza) otherwise I bet I would have been cleaning that up too. My husband also got sick later tonight before he went to bed. That ticked me off so bad I went to write this review.
Would not recommend. Something definitely went downhill here. I really liked this...
Read moreHad the gyro multiple times, childs pizza with grilled chicken, and the gyro platter multiple times, baklava twice, and now that I think about it will probably get it tonight as well now that it’s in my brain. My experiences are exclusively delivery through DoorDash so can’t say how other platforms are.
Hands down 100% best gyro in the area IMO. Authentic flavors with the gyro and the fries were absolutely great and probably the best crinkle cut fries in Chesapeake. All of my food has always arrived warm/hot which is usually rare with delivery. The gyro was absolutely delicious from inside out. The pita was warm and absolutely none of it was soggy at all, I’m guessing they toast it a little first.
The gyro meat was very good quality, firm, and sliced just thick enough to keep together. It was well seasoned and spread out so there wasn’t a single bite didn’t have some of each topping. Even though the pita was warm and had the hot meat the lettuce was very crisp and none of it had cooked/turned soggy at all. The tzatziki was really great, and every ingredient was layered in evenly.
The fries were hot, salted, and most importantly with crinkle cut fries they were crisp, I didn’t have a single soggy fry in the box. The salad with the platter was massive, all of it was great including their dressing. With the platter I was stuffed after the gyro and fries and didn’t eat much of the salad honestly....
