Peking City Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

I really like this place. I've actually been coming here for over 30 years. I just realized today. It's always been a go to for lunch. It's a nice quaint atmosphere.The service is good and some of the food is good.

Recently I stop in every once in a while for lunch. Their quality is really lacking in a couple of areas which would be easy for them to fix. If you order the chicken wraps, the last time I was there, I ordered them, and the lettuce was all white and red old lettuce, and they looked at me like I was crazy when I said, bring me some fresh lettuce. Today the 2 pieces of lettuce on top were fine, underneath were the old white and red lettuce. Ridiculous. Like they think the customer won't notice. Really? The chef wants to use old vegetables. I also got a lunch hunan chicken to bring home. The mushrooms are as old as they can be. The black you see in my photographs is the mushroom black nearly inedible. In fact, they're concerning to eat. This is because they won't use fresh vegetables, they want to serve all their old vegetables. The chef really should be ashamed of himself and it probably should be inspected. Stop using your old vegetables that should go in...

The best dumplings in Virginia for me. They were delicious. The meat and dough part... Especially the meat part. Rice was okay. It got the job done. Beef was also okay. The egg rolls were great although didn't have a lot of stuff inside.. Still great. The ribs were also good but didn't have a lot of meat on it.. Usually mostly on just one side. Taste was great. Overall it's not the best but not the worst... Probably one of the better ones in Virginia Beach because of those dumplings.. Man those dumplings were great. Next time I go back I'm getting two batches of dumplings instead of one.

Btw instead of the cartons Chinese restaurants usually give in take out they gave us leftover boxes. It's not bad it's just I usually expect the usual cartons XD.

Overall 6 or 7/10 mostly because I've had better Chinese food since I'm from NYC. Mostly the best you can get in Virginia Beach is a 7 or maybe an 8.

We recently moved to the Great Neck Road area from another part of Hampton Roads and were looking forward to finding a great Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, Peking City missed the mark by a lot. The egg rolls seemed to be just vegetables. When I asked if they were supposed to have meat, I was told it was chicken, but it was almost non-existent. We ordered three other items off the menu that were supposed to be spicy (a pepper next to the name.) Nothing had any heat/spice to it. When I asked (when checking out) why the items with peppers weren't spicy, I was told that spicy is to "too much" for local residents. Then why put a pepper next to the name? The vegetarian fried rice (comes with the entrée) also was bland. Service was hit or miss...one waitress was working at peak dinner time, and her knowledge of the restaurant and food was mediocre. Looks like we are still on the hunt for a good Chinese restaurant in north VA Beach! P.S. Also tried Foon's delivery and it was also awful...not like the old days of Foon's...
