While visiting Virginia Beach, and waiting for an appointment, my husband and I stopped for lunch at The Bagel Maker in Virginia Beach. What a great find! This place is overflowing with atmosphere! Being a New York City lover, I was immediately drawn to it. After walking in, I felt as if I was truly in New York City (I'm a very impressionable person...). The NYC subway decor was brilliant, and the walls were covered with murals of vintage NYC street shots. I loved it and felt very comfortable. If the atmosphere wasn't enough, the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the bagel sandwiches of our choice, with chips and beverage, and sat down to enjoy our lunch. Truly delicious -- the way I would make a bagel sandwich. They had many different bagels to choose from, and they were the typical large, chewy bagel to which one would be accustomed in NYC. And they don't skimp on the cream cheese. It was thickly spread and delicious with my ham. My husband chose the Brooklyn Club sandwich, and it was piled so high he had to take it apart to eat it! Both were equally delicious and satisfying. I love this place, and wish they had a store in Ohio near where I live. If ever we are back that way, this place will be a must. Enjoy. I know you will.

I’ll start by saying that the overall service at the counter is always great!! I’ll also say I’m a born and raised New Yorker, so I know good bagel sammies! But at an extra $2 per additional item on your bagel, you’d think the kitchen could pay attention to the orders. I added hashbrowns on my Tribeca and got none… literally none. See pics. This happens more often than not… prob every 3-5 orders. An order or two ago they put cheese on my sons bagel… he’s HATES cheese. I get that people make mistakes but it happens more than it should. I’m not driving back to the store after I get home and everyone is sitting down to eat breakfast. Also, the bagels could be toasted more. Opened our order today and they were barely toasted. The tribeca was filled with a massive amount of grease from the sausage and bacon… like a MASSIVE amount. For $38 for 3 bagel breakfast sandwiches, I would expect better quality control. We love the place and hopefully they’ll use this review to get better. If so, we’ll be back because this place used to be the best but now it’s just ok because it’s the only place of its type in the area. We’ll give it another chance but we won’t return if they keep messing up orders and quality doesn’t improve.

Very good! Taste, variety, service, cleanliness and speed of service all great. I was a little concerned about the price thought they were in the higher side compared to other places until I recieved my order. My salmon and lox was big enough to feed two people, all I needed was another bagel. Other places I've been to what was put on one side is what you get for the whole bagel but they pile on so much here they have to serve it open faced with each side piled high now that's giving me my money's worth. Flavor is on point when you bite into something and have to close your eyes while chewing your not only savoring but also saving that flavor deep down into your flavor memory. Just between me and you after my first bite my daughter asked for a bite so I cut her a small piece and as I watched her eat that piece I drooled I had to wipe it off the table and everything. The drive was 30 minutes for us and we already have a plan to go back before the end of the week.

The only reason this place is getting two stars is that i got a refund. I would have given it one star because of the condescending and insensitive service I'd endured. Let me preface my review by saying that I normally don't order online, but when I do it ends up at the right location. That, however, was not the case in this instance. I had ordered online to pick up my food at the Great Neck Road location, when it actually ended up at the Virginia Beach Boulevard location. I was initially only a little embarrassed when I discovered this with the help of the two women at the register. They told me that I am not the first to do this and that others have made this very same mistake. This small embarrassment eventually grew when they began to laugh. At first it looked as though they were laughing with me, but it started to feel like a, "ha ha, you idiot", kind of laugh. I immediately called the Virginia beach Boulevard location, even though the cashier informed me that I probably won't get a refund. When I called the representative on the line immediately made me feel guilty about him "having to lose money" and said that there was no way I could have made this mistake. What's worse is that I had to put him on speaker phone because I was under the impression that he was going to educate me on how to order to the correct location correctly but instead made me feel worse about the situation. But, in the end he gave me my refund and I'm grateful for that. Immediately after I'd gotten off the phone with the other location, the overall energy from woman and young lady at the counter seemed manufactured. Their smiles looked forced and the energy of the room dimmed. Almost as if I had inconvenienced their day somehow. I don't know why as I am still spending hard-earned money at their location despite having experienced their behavior and the behavior of their sister location. As a customer, I did not feel like "more than a customer" as their motto sugggests. I felt the exact opposite. They laughed in my face, told me I wouldn't get a refund, was criticized by their sister location and they dimmed their supposed welcoming energy after I had gotten my refund. This is a farce of customer service as they make you feel to have never shown your face in their establishment. I have to say that my first experience at the Bagel Baker will be my last for ANY of their locations. I hope they read this and get their act together, because the food itself was not enough to warrant more...

bagel baker has gone completely down hill over the past year, and it just keeps getting worse. For one, the bagels are either cold or burnt most all the time. That is not even the worst part though…The service is absolutely awful. The workers in the past have been kind and charismatic, but now that is not the case AT ALL! I called in to place a to go order last week and the lady on the phone claimed that I “needed to stop calling in my order” in an aggravated tone and preceded to tell me to order online, despite the fact that I was driving and was unable to do so, especially since I am a young driver. Once I came in to pay for my food the same lady practically yelled at me and made me feel awful. As she complained that she “can’t take all the phone calls at once.” I was not going to do anything about it, but today there was another complication. I placed my order online today, as I was rudely directed to do. When I went to pick up my food the same lady informed me that I had ordered decaf coffee and asked if I meant to do that, I said no and instead of giving me a regular one, I was told I had to pay for an entire new coffee. To make matters worse, the lady was not intending on giving me the coffee I originally payed for, costing me more money that I was not aware of. Moral of the story is that the service is AWFUL most of the time, and I do not want to waste my money on this business anymore. It is...
