We have been going to Hot Pho for several months as their Pho was very tasty. However, our last few visits we have noticed a decline in food and service. Today was the last chance. When we walked in I noticed their specials board and we laughed at the inflated prices. As I am on chemo I don’t have much of an appetite and wanted beef fried rice. When the “waiter” came over to take our order I said to him, “ I would like to see what an $11 fried rice dish looks like.” The restaurant was empty except for what I assume is the family/friends of the manager sitting in the back of the restaurant. They brought out my husband soup, 10 minutes later they brought us our spring rolls (appetizer) another 10 minutes later they finally brought my fried rice. The price for the fried rice is outrageous and there was literally three pieces of beef in my rice. When they brought me my dish I simply stated to the waiter that it is general practice to bring entrées to the entire table at the same time or at least within a shorter period of time as my husband’s soup is getting cold as he patiently waited for me to get my food. The waiter then proceeded to get defensive and try to tell me that the rice takes longer than the soup and that’s why they have to bring it out. I explained to him that a chef should know if one dish takes longer to cook you start that one first then you start the other one so all the entrees come out together. The waiter continue to argue with me and telling me that no one else complains and that he heard me when I walked into the door talk about the prices and that I needed to learn to be more subtle and I needed to extend my vocabulary (??) while he was using profanity while talking to me. I than continued to talk to my husband regarding the matter when the waiter from across the room at the service window said to me if you’re going to talk about me you can talk about me to my face I’m right here. At that point I asked for the manager who was sitting the whole time at a table in the back of the room watching this go on. The waiter then said to me I’ve already told him and I again asked for the manager. The manager came over and I explain the situation to him he was polite and explained that the waiter was just a kid and didn’t understand. As the manager was talking to me the “kid” tried to talk over him and come towards our table in a confrontational demeanor. The manager physically had to put his hand out to stop him from coming to the table. When you’re in the restaurant business you have to be open to criticism and listen to your customers I don’t believe it’s too difficult to bring entrées to a table at the same time or to look over your price selection when several people have told you that your overpriced for the venue you are in. Customers may not always be right but you still have to treat them with the courtesy of listening to them and acknowledging what you’re hearing. It’s clear now why they can’t keep the staff and that they can only depend on family and friends for reviews and business. The fact the manager was sitting at a table in the back of not a large restaurant at all was hearing this entire conversation go on back-and-forth between me and his employee and did nothing to come up and talk to us until he was asked for twice. And for both of them to tell us that nobody’s complained before and I come home and read reviews of people complaining about the same thing Then maybe they should start listening to their customers rather than getting rude and confrontational because you know we are right. The only way I see this business surviving is by keeping their friends and their family friends coming in. I’d also like to note that they charge an additional two dollars if you have a take out order. When I asked about that in the past they said it was because of the packaging that had to be used in order for them to deliver a takeout. However, you have to give me the same packaging if I come into the restaurant and want to take my food home. Just another example of...
Read moreI am a member of the Regent University Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA), and our organization hosts events on campus frequently. Everytime we've catered from Pho Viet, the restaurant has done an exceptional job! In the most recent event, we wanted to do a Vietnamese-Mexican fusional tacos because we were partnering with Regent University Hispanic Law Student Organization. No restaurant caters fusional tacos of that type, but I thought of Pho Viet. And Mr. Viet, the owner, was incredibly helpful! He put together a menu with me and tailor made the pickled carrots and radish to look like pico de gallo, stir fry chicken & beef in a way that resemble taco meat. In a nutshell, the tacos look like a twist on Vietnamese banh mi and Mexican tacos. The event was a huge hit, and everyone absolutely enjoyed the food! Highly recommend this restaurant!
I've also eaten here a few times, and their phở is by far the BEST phở I've eaten in the US (I have tried many phở). Their bánh mì thịt nướng and cơm bò lúc lắc are also to die for!
Update (2025): I did go back recently in 2025, and the pho quality wasn't nearly as good anymore...not sure what happened. It used to be 9/10, but now more...
