I visited here on a Monday afternoon around 1:35pm. I had no idea how close it was to my hotel when I chose this place. I went to the end of the parking lot to turn GPS on, looked up, and BAM! There was the sign lol. I could’ve walked lol. I chose this place primary because they were known for their waffles, the pictures looked good, and I wanted to give them a try.
When I walked it, it was pretty cold. It was a cloudy day with the outside weather being around 79 degrees. I noticed it wasn’t very busy. There were about 5 tables in use. I was greeted and sat promptly. The waitress came over shortly after. I ordered a mango orange mimosa and a water. I received both fairly quickly (1-2 minutes).
I ordered around 1:45pm. I got the BMW Waffle combo with home fries and sausage links. Waitress said the combo would be an extra $3. I was thinking about adding fruit on my waffle, but it would’ve been another $3, so I decided against it.
My food came out surprisingly quick, around 1:50pm. I ate the sausage first, which was tasty. It had the perfect crisp when taking the initial bite. Next was the home fries, which wasn’t aesthetically pleasing. Personally, they also didn’t taste the best plain. For me, home fries makes me think of fried potatoes that are typically square in shape. This wasn’t it. It just tasted like potatoes. They tasted 10x better with ketchup. This was until I got halfway through and realized it just wasn’t that good. They over cooked pieces throughout and it was nasty. Now to the waffle. It was shaped like a flower. I wouldn’t say it was the best waffle I’ve had. The edges in several area were more crispy than soft. Additional, the menu says the BMW Waffle is a “bacon infused waffle topped with maple glaze and even more bacon!”, but there was barely any bacon on the inside. I didn’t even notice any until I got to the middle, and it wasn’t very much. So, this was a letdown. I’m a bacon lover. I was expected to taste bacon in every single bite; bacon didn’t even cover the entire top of the waffle.
While eating, I overheard an interview taking place. So, Jimmy and Jerry are two brothers who run the business. There is more than one location. The restaurant is named after their father, who cooked in the kitchen. There 22 tables total. I heard, who I assume is the manger, state that everyone runs food and that there is typically 3 servers throughout the week. The highlight of teamwork was good to hear and it was witnessed. There isn’t a designated host, so the manager and my server sat guests by whoever was available.
Overall, I probably won’t return. I just don’t see the worth of it, unfortunately. My meal and drink was $25. Per the receipt, my waitress was Ashanti. She...
Read moreI was really looking forward to eating here with my family for the first time since children eat free but it turned out to be a tragedy. We were greeted with a very warm welcome and cheerful smiles. The host was very kind and so was our server. The bathroom was very clean and didn't smell like a public restroom. Two stalls one sink though. Sitting at the table I realized there was hair on the table. Gross yes but I understand so I wiped it off and didn't complain, at first. I ordered the simple chicken and waffles with cheese eggs and bacon, my husband had Rockefeller chicken sandwich and for the baby girl she had eggs and French toast and a Sweet tea for everyone! My husband tasted the tea and stirred it with his straw saying it was too sweet and needed water that's when I noticed some kind of phlegm floating in his drink and when I looked at my tea I noticed stuff floating in mine too. My daughter had already started drinking hers and I couldn't tell if anything was in it because her cup was not see through it was styrofoam. They replaced all the drinks and gave us Sprite instead. After cutting my daughter's French toast I lifted the plate to place it in front of her and saw there was ketchup stuck to the bottom of the plate. I sent it back and before they could bring out her food I was pointing out to my waitress that I didn't order anything green. There was leftover broccoli resting beneath my beautiful waffle. And it was such a beautiful waffle that I couldn't eat. My husband was very lucky to have been served food on a clean plate however once he finished his sprites we realized it wasn't something about the tea but the glasses were dirty. I came here for the deal of my children eating for free, to sit and enjoy a decent meal with my family, and to get away from fast food that's been making me sad. Instead im seriously disgusted and my stomach is still turning. What I thought would end up becoming a new place for my family to dine turned into be another reason to cook at home and not eat out. I expected to leave with a full belly and a sweet memory but left with a sad empty belly and sour taste in my mouth. Just a heads up.
To the dishwasher and to the chef: You knew the dishes were dirty when you took it out of the dishwasher. You saw that bacteria infested broccoli on my plate before you placed my waffle on the plate. You chef, are a sad, miserable, disgusting, filthy, trifling human being to serve another human being that filth especially when they've never done anything to you. May karma not show much mercy.
The manager did compensate us. Makes...
Read moreFour friends and I met yesterday morning for a long overdue get together. We decided to try Pop's this time and were very happy with our choice. The place was bright and cheerful, and our server Ashanti was attentive and helpful.
Although Pop's was somewhat busy, we only had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. And they also were really fast at preparing and serving our orders; I'd say Ashanti and the young lady helping her were back with our food within about 15 minutes.
For mine, I chose the yummy Piglet Omelette because I'd never seen its ingredient combination offered anywhere else before -- a filling of kielbasa, ham, sausage and cheddar cheese with a topping of bacon jam. Then I picked their signature home fries (soft, fried potatoes with what tasted like sweet onions) as my side (the other choices being grits or fruit), and a biscuit for the "toast" option (I believe they also offer English muffins and bagels for this part of the combo, which is also unusual).
Speaking of my biscuit, they did something else differently with it. They halved and buttered it before toasting the halves. I never would've thought to do that myself, but then again, the biscuit was larger than what I typically make at home (see the halves on the side plate?)
For my meal and coffee, I spent a little over $22 before tip. While that might seem expensive for breakfast, the deliciousness of the food and the wonderful service made the cost worth it to me. Plus, I was full after eating only half of each item in my combo, so I brought the rest home to let my husband try it all too. The only disappointing thing about Pop's from my POV is that they don't have a location in any of the cities or towns along 460 so they'd be closer to me. (Hint,...
