Sandwiches are conceptually simple: bread, meat, cheese, and condiments. But as I’m sure you’ve experienced, it can be very tough to create a sandwich that is truly excellent. What we ate at Bazaaro’s Deli was just that— excellent! Stupendous! Marvelous! Delicious! Amazing!
Bread, in my opinion will always be the most important ingredient on a sandwich. While you can have a good sandwich with mediocre bread, you just can’t have an excellent sandwich without incredible bread. And the bread they use at Bazaaro’s was incredible. The chewy texture was perfect sandwiches. It held up beautifully under the condiments (not even a trace of sogginess), had excellent flavor that complements the meat and cheese (as opposed to competing), and was a total highlight. I’m not sure where they are sourcing the bread, or if they bake it in house. What’s clear is that they’ve got it down, and I loved it.
The meat was delicious and high quality, with what I would call generous but appropriate amounts on each sandwich we ordered. The turkey breast was fresh and moist, wasn’t too salty, and had just the exact right amount of cured/smoky flavor. The salami, pepperoni, and ham on the Italian were also very high quality.
The condiments were also delicious. I’m not sure if they make any of them in-house, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they’re using homemade mayo. It was very, very good. The oil and vinegar on my Italian sub were perfect—the perfect amount and the perfect flavor.
We also ordered a New York hot dog, which was delicious and authentic. My wife also ordered banana pudding, and it was very good. Nilla wafers, whipped cream, bananas, and delicious pudding.
If you’re shopping and wondering where you could grab a high-quality lunch, I’d recommend Bazaaro’s Deli every time. If I worked or lived in the area, I’d go there for sandwiches even when I wasn’t shopping. It was an...
Read moreBased on the reviews, I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. The atmosphere was lacking, the space felt like it was thrown together without much thought or identity. Music was blasting despite the place being nearly empty, which just made things feel off.
The employee we interacted with was polite but didn’t seem particularly enthusiastic. Honestly, they seemed like they’d rather be anywhere else. To make things worse, nearly every table we passed was dirty, crumbs, sticky spots, and residue, even though we came in less than an hour after they opened. With only one other customer inside, it’s hard to understand how things got to that point so early in the day.
Still, I could’ve overlooked all of that if the food lived up to the praise in the reviews... but it didn’t. I had the French dip, which was overwhelmingly salty even before dipping into the au jus. The bread was nicely toasted, but the overall flavor just didn’t work for me. My wife had the BLT and said it was “okay,” but definitely nothing memorable.
Maybe we caught them on an off day but based on our visit, the experience didn’t reflect what so many others seem to love...
Read moreThis deli is absolutely amazing. My family and I came here from NY for a conference and while in the area we stopped by. The deli is very spacious and feels welcoming. The staff are very friendly and patient. They did not hesitate to accommodate my family and I as we were a large group. The food did take a little to come but it was definitely worth the wait! The Philly cheese steak, chicken cheese sandwich, burger, and fries were all very good and flavorful. I had to ask for another sandwich to take on the road (which I will post). My family and I left no crumbs, everything was consumed. The banana pudding was also very delicious, it was truly homemade, thick, and creamy. The pudding had the perfect amount of cookies and banana. There is even a cute little shop with they have with products from local vendors. It’s always nice to see businesses come together and support each other. If you are looking for a sandwich you will enjoy and that is reasonably priced this is where you need to go. I definitely recommend this as a must-try spot when you’re in Williamsburg. 10/10, I will definitely try this...
