First, let me say I live here in Williamsburg. We did bring up the fact that, unfortunately, we were not happy with the food to the manager when he approached us to ask if everything was OK. All he said was sorry. We were not looking for any discount or free anything from him. We did not have to wait to be seated because it was not busy on a Sunday? The portions are ok. But, other side dishes like fries (small amount) or even chips could be included to justify a $14 sub. I understand that the prices are higher because of inflation, but it doesn't justify price. But most disturbing when trying to order the servers ability to communicate in English was difficult, especially when asking questions. You couldn't ask for any special requests. Menu not understood by server. Balsamic vinaigrette was balsamic glaze. The gf pasta was requested, and I was charged extra, which is ok. I'm not sure if it actually was gf. Maybe the sauce in piccatta had wheat flour in it, so I had a bad reaction. It would have been helpful if the server was familiar with how things were cooked and could offer an alternative if required. Overall, I don't recommend it. I know because I've eaten here a few times before over the years. Sometimes, truth hurts but can cause a positive change.
In response to the owner reply. Read what I said carefully: II DID NOT have to wait for a seat. We were there before the large party. I DID NOT have a problem with the extra Charge for GF pasta. I question whether I got ACTUAL GF pasta because I had a bad reaction from my wheat allergy. If I did receive GF pasta the Great! Then, my reaction had to come from THE PICCATA SAUCE OR CHICKEN PREPARATION. I just want the public to be aware so no one has a reaction like me. As for international students coming here. I have NO PROBLEM WITH THAT EITHER. My parent and spouse are from other parts of the world. But, customer service is the front line of a business. One needs to be well versed in the local language to communicate and explain the menu and way things are prepared to avoid problems. If not yet able to speak enough then maybe use that person in another part of the business. Again this for the public to be aware and hopeful you will stop making excuses and being defensive. Your replies to others are very...
Read moreNothing prepared my soul for the uplifting and intoxicating aroma of garlic and other herbs and spices that welcomed me when I walked into Olde Towne Pizza for the first time. I thought to myself, “We’ve made a great decision to come here.”
And that sentiment remained with me for the entire evening! From the minute we were greeted, we were treated graciously by everyone at Olde Towne Pizza, and especially by our server, Zeynep. Her warm, friendly, professional service made our evening superior.
We started with a couple of glasses of wine, and I was so pleasantly surprised by how fruit-forward my Chianti was. So much personality for a house wine! My friend enjoyed a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, and we cheered these selections.
Up next, flavorful garlic knots and ooey-gooey mozzarella cheese sticks were served to us, and we feasted like royalty on these well-seasoned, hot and fresh appetizers. Knocked out by the generous portions, we were ecstatic to have some leftovers to take home.
Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for - this place is called Olde Towne Pizza for a reason! My eyes grew wide and my mouth began to water as Zeynep presented to us the most fragrant, most delicious looking pizza that I have set my sights on in years.
The Margherita pizza was our choice, and what a fabulous choice it was, complete with a fresh basil chiffonade decorating the entire pie. Oh, the cheese was melted perfectly, and it was not oily or greasy in any way.
As for the sauce…oh, the sauce…I am quite picky about my tomato sauces. I don’t prefer them too sweet, and this full-flavor marinara truly complemented the cheese and the basil so well. This sauce made the experience a few notches above the rest!
Oh, what about the crust, you ask? It too, was a delight, crispy along the bottom, and it really held up the toppings well. For anyone looking for a true NY style pizza, I dare say that my Virginian self might be right in recommending this one!
Overall, this evening out was full of fun, flavor, and a family feel. You can be sure that we’ll be...
Read moreI want to start with the service: THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT!
Now the food: Worst “Sicilian” food I’ve ever had. I’m not sure where the 4 stars came from but please don’t fall for it. We started with the “homemade” Focaccia and I assume Marinara sauce. It was completely tasteless and certain pieces were over cooked (not sure how that happened but ok).
We ordered the Mushroom Marsala for the appetizer- 1) tasted as if they were a mix of canned and “fresh” 2) The onions were cut the size of a thumb nail 3) Again- TASTELESS. I had to add salt for every bit I took.
The salad that came with the meal. I truly don’t understand how you mess up lettuce, cucumbers, red onions and a carrot. The Balsamic dressing might as well had been sludge. It was so thick that I had to use my finger to get it out. The Blue Cheese dressing tasted of pure Mayo and still had no seasoning..
The Mains: we ordered Spaghetti with Meatballs and The Vodka sauce with Chicken. Where do I actually begin…
Spaghetti w/ Meatballs:the Meatballs tasted like the bagged ones from the grocery store and had the texture of wet dog food. Yet- it was still extremely under seasoned and completely watery. The “Homemade” pasta was over and undercooked at the same time. Not sure how that’s possible but apparently it is.
The “Homemade” Vodka Sauce w/ Chicken: the sauce was thick, tasteless, and Brightly colored. The Chicken tasted like the pre cooked bag for salads for the grocery store, somehow again- was overcooked, stringy, tough and was undercooked at the same time. The so called “Homemade” Pasta was overcooked to the point where it had the texture of mush.
The ALMOST decent thing was the drink; The Gin Spritz (forgot the actual name of the cocktail).
Overall- please don’t waste your time here. Unless you get the pizza, cause that’s all the people were Ordering. (Although sitting next to someone that ordered it, looked...
