I eat at District Taco quite often and normally have no issues. From my past experiences, the food was good and the staff was nice. However- today, I’ve never been more disappointed and generally inconvenienced with no remorse from staff/management. I ordered 3 breakfast tacos for delivery and my only modifications were that my guac and grilled veggies be on the side. When my food arrived, I was astounded to find that they’d given me 3 EMPTY TORTILLAS.... just plain tortillas with a side of guac and veg, then nothing else.... like HOW?!?
So I then called to let the restaurant know what happened. The man who answered said I could come into the store with my wrong order and receipt to have it fixed. He also said that they would throw in a free bag of chips or drink as compensation for the wrong order... as if that makes up for such a negligent mistake and the inconvenience of having to drive to the store (aka the entire reason for the invention of delivery).
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE... I arrive at District Taco (the Lee Hwy location) and present my dilemma to the cashier. She re-makes the tacos I originally ordered, says “sorry about that”, then sends me on my way. I get back home then open my tacos and to my disappointment, they forgot the cheese- which is an ingredient listed on the menu, not just an add-on I requested. I guess it was my mistake for not double-checking the bag before leaving the store.. but I also made the mistake of assuming the same thing wouldn’t happen again.
So I’m summary, I had to drive into the store to correct a DELIVERY order, then was served the wrong order not just once, but TWICE... and didn’t get offered a refund? Or at the very least, the complimentary bag of chips/drink that was said on the phone??? Unbelievable. Would not recommend...
Read moreI arrived just before the lunch rush. Staff are friendly and accommodating. I ordered 3 flour tacos: chorizo, barbacoa, pollo asado. All 3 'American Style' with cilantro. Along with 1 regular soda (they have Boylan's fountain which are really good). All 3 flour tacos were cold and very obviously just came out of the fridge. Should I have gotten the corn?
I'm not Mexican but lived in LA and soft tacos, flour or corn, are never served cold. I really cannot believe after several years of all the hype I've heard about DT they give me 3 cold flour tacos. First of all does that mean DT doesn't make their own? Or they're not made fresh daily? Or DT purchases tacos and tortillas from another company?
The pollo asado and barbacoa were both good but not the best I've had even in northern VA/DC area. They were, I guess good? But both were lacking in flavor. The variety of salsas at the Salsa Bar were all good (I tried 3 from mild to very hot). I didn't care for the chorizo. It was flavorless. None of the salsas had the power to redeem the lackluster chorizo.
I just don't know? Such a disappointing lunch experience. I'm a bit shocked by all the hype and the mostly stellar Google reviews this very mediocre "Mexican" restaurant manages to get. I believe a lot of these reviewers never had decent Mexican cuisine before.
Noise level at this location is deafening. I don't know why they bother playing music. You cannot hear the person next to you let alone whatever they're piping out of their sound system.
Parking is a nightmare or a joke, or some bizarre combination of the two.
The guys who own District Taco are laughing themselves all the way...
Read moreMy second visit at this restaurant was spent with a good friend of mine. I ordered the 3 taco special that consisted of carne asada, chicken, and barbacoa. My friend ordered the nachos borrachos that included pollo asada. The flour tacos were large and filling, and each one was equally delicious.
The food has been consistently great and the price somewhat reasonable. I travel to Mexico about every 3 months, and I have to admit that I was somewhat skeptical just because of the fact that there are people selling tacos, literally at every street corner. That being said, I have had my fair share of tacos.
The salsa bar had several unique selections, and one other interesting note is the soda fountain option. They offer a variety of soda mixes from a unique cola brand called Baylan Bottling. I have always chose the Cane Cola, which sort-of tastes like root beer. The service was also quick and expedient.
The seating was kind-of limited inside, 6pm most of the tables were occupied. In my opinion, that was the only downside. Nevertheless, I haven’t yet had any trouble...
