This review is specifically focused on one of the servers at this location. Her name was Rebecca. It is unfortunate that this review was necessary and I debated for some time on whether to leave it, however, I feel it is important to do so. My family and I visited this particular store while in Newport News and visiting a friend. After paying and finding a seat, we waited for our server at the table. We initially saw three servers within the section we had sat in, which is where a drink station was located, and only one of the servers actually remained in that section for longer than a minute or so, at any given time. That particular servers' name was Rebecca. It should be noted that Rebecca is white and my family is black. When we first sat down, I made eye contact with Rebecca on more than one occasion, so I knew that she was aware that we had sat in her section. Additionally, when we first sat down, the section was completely empty of any other customers. We waited at our table, and despite her initially seeing us, she never came over, and it was apparent that she was attempting to find busy work to avoid coming to our table. She would wipe tables that were in her section that were obviously already clean, would converse with other servers who came over, or do other tasks and never approached our table or greeted us. After about 5-6 minutes, a couple came to the section, who were white and sat down at a table about 4-5 feet away from us. They were very friendly and we greeted each other. Approximately 2-3 minutes after they sat down, they were approached by Rebecca, plated were brought to them and she began providing services to them. Still, never greeting or even acknowledging my family at the table directly across from the couple. After about 10 minutes, we decided to change sections because it felt as though it was a deliberate attempt from Rebecca to continually ignore us. As we were moving to another section, we did approach her and inform her of why we were moving and she stated that she had not seen us the entire time we were seated, despite making eye contact, initially. We moved, and then informed the general manager at the store of what had just occurred. I am unsure what happened after the report was made, however I truly hope that no one else has to feel what my family and I felt. It was discriminatory and prejudicial toward my family. Not to mention, painful, demeaning, degrading and embarrassing to be treated in that manner, especially when my family and I had done nothing to provoke such a response. We were courteous, polite, and respectful, which should be a basic expectation in any human interaction. I also must mention that we had no negative interactions with anyone else. Our next server was amazing and the food was good. However, our first interaction with Rebecca, really diminished the overall experience and caused the entire mood and enjoyment of our visit to be a negative one. Again, I just really hope that our report was taken seriously and no one goes through...
Read moreWould give it zero stars if that was an option. I went to eat with my family a few weeks ago. Had just sat down to eat and had a full drink spilt all over me and the entire table by the waiter. I was then laughed at and it was made as a joke by the waiter (at least it was just a cup and not a pitcher) who did it who didn’t even help clean up the mess he made. Just told me to let it all go to the floor. I did. He then took everything from our table and didn’t replace anything. Also didn’t try to clean up the mess in the floor and had other patrons slipping on the ice from the cup. I left very upset. I was contacted by Mr Wells the hospitality manager about my visit who apologized for his employees behavior. He told me he wanted to make it right and for us to come back in for a free meal to redo the experience. . . Fast forward to today when I go back in to “redo my experience”. I stand in a line for 30 mins (there was a large bus load who came in before and one cashier) after waiting my turn to get to the cashier the manager there today opens up another register. I tell the cashier and then the manager what I was told to do and what Mr. Wells told me to tell them and was told by them both since he wasn’t there they couldn’t do that. Come back on another day when he’s there so I can talk to him about it. I repeated that he said it didn’t matter whether he was there or not I would still be able to come in. That he was supposed to be leaving my information up at the registers for whenever I came in. They told me I needed to come back another day and didn’t even try to look for anything he left for them. So I had a horrible experience and then tried to give everyone another chance and get treated like crap once again. If you want to be treated like crap you should check it out; if not I suggest you go just about ANYWHERE else other than here and you will be treated...
Read moreThe only reason I am giving them 3 stars is due to the quality of the food. It would be 1 star due to the catering manager Mr Wells. Planned a 90th BDay party for my father, called and placed an order a month in advance for 100 people with the catering mgr Mr Wells. He told me I would need to come in and pay half down and the order would be in his catering book if he was not available. Arrived in VA early to pay the deposit was told there there is NO catering book and my order could not be found. I asked to speak to another manager since Mr Wells was not available no one came to speak to me. The team member (I’m sorry I did not get his name) convinced me he was able to assist I placed the order with a team member and was told the food would be ready at 2:00 Saturday if there was a problem they would call me. Arrived at 2:00 PM the day of the event no food and the kitchen did not appear to be aware of the order. I am just happy my husband went to pick up the order instead of me, I probably would not have been as understanding. The GM did his best to rectify the problem, I am thankful for that, but this did add stress to event that should have been a joyous occasion. We used this same restaurant last year for a 90th BDay party for my father in law ordered through Mr Wells and when arrived to pick it up it was not ready. Should have learned our lesson, but everyone complimented the food so we decided to give them a second chance. To be fair I must say they did not disappoint this time either with the quality and quantity of food. I recommend If you choose to give them a try be prepared the food may not be ready when needed. Work with the General Mgr and avoid the Catering Mgr Mr Wells, twice he has let this...
