I've sat on smashed plastic stools nibbling questionable street meat from Mumbai to Macau. I know a thing or two about rolling the dice on dubious dining. But this Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet in Woodbridge? Let's just say this spot crapped out big time during my latest visit.
What is it about the sweet, buttery scent of steaming crab that evokes the ocean's bounty? Well you wouldn't know it from the bland, watery boiled crabs they tried passing off here. No Old Bay or lemon or anything to add a little zing. Just sad, flavorless crustaceans. The "seafood" boil was equally lackluster. C'mon folks, I've eaten better seasoned dishes from Houston gas station delis. Is a little freaking salt and Cajun spice too much to ask?
But the fried fish, oh the fried fish. That's where they decided to dump all the seasoning in the joint apparently. Salty enough to mummify a pharaoh. The funky fried chicken didn't do any favors for my appetite either. And one whiff of the Alfredo pasta confirmed it had turned. Never trust a white sauce that smells like sweaty gym socks, folks. I learned that lesson the hard way in a hostel outside panama.
Now I don't usually complain about bathrooms. When you gotta go on the road, you gotta go. But one glance at the grime accumulating on the toilet rims made my stomach turn faster than the rancid Alfredo. We're talking layers of build-up here, not just a day's debris. Enough to make me wish I had a lemon wedge to scour it with.
Look, I gave this place multiple chances because their buffet usually over-delivers. But after this experience, I'm not riding 40 minutes each way again unless they get their act together. The sushi chefs still had some pride left in their work, so there's hope. But Hibachi Grill whatever-the-hell needs to take a long look in the mirror and remember what made their buffet a winner in the first place. Til then, this joint is on my permanent...

Now, let's give a REAL REVIEW based upon the "category" of eatery this is! - The food selection is awesome! And the quality of food, considering it sits on a tray under a hot lamp, is superb! The hostess was on her game and came by at least once every 5 minutes or so. As a Business Coach, I also look at how the entire facility is being ran. The level of people they run through here and the amount of given service, with 97% of all trays constantly and consistently filled, this place gets an A-Rating from me!
I travel about 7,000 miles a month and I eat from the $(Low End) the $$$$(name on a list required) establishments. So my understanding of quality and service is based solely on the level or category of the Grill(Buffet) I'm at.
My family and I will now be returning here at least once every 2 weeks or so. It was that good! And the price, for being in the local DC area was "Fantastic"!! We've paid a LOT more and received a LOT less!
My girlfriend works at a high end Restaurant in Washington DC, so she's a professional and knows how these places should run, the quality of food and service. She was equally as impressed. There's no way these people should receive anything less than 5 stars. It was amazingly managed, well stocked, and they handle the massive flow of people in a way that impressed both me and my girlfriend. Both professionals in managing businesses. We HIGHLY...
Read moreDo not go here if you don't want to be embarrassed in front of your family. Took my family here last night and was shocked at what was done to me. Once I got there they seated us and let us do our thing. Once they felt we had been there long enough the bus girls started taking plates that we was still eating from up and then would not refill our drinks. I did not say anything cause I'm a nice guy. Once the help gave me my tab I went to my wallet and gave her my money to pay for the bill. When she returned with my change she started taking up more plates we was still eating from. Just because I paid did not mean I was ready to go. She stood over me and made me and my family uncomfortable. So I decided to leave at that point and what she did next was so wrong. As I stood up to walk to the front desk to give a tip for the help she ran in front of me and stopped me and demanded a tip. THREE TIMES!!!! I was so shacked because I was going to the front to put the tip in. She did that in front of me and my family and totally embarrassed me. Because of her actions I did not tip and will never go there again. I told my Brother about this and he told me they did the same thing to him. A tip is earned! You do not ask for a tip! This is a buffet and the help is paid hourly. You do not have to tip anybody if you do not want. Besides the $50 tab for three people in my opinion was way to much for a buffet and the food was not that good. Please do not go there. You would be better off going to the China King buffet a mile away across from...
