illy Café — Restaurant in Virginia

Lydia and Helen are up early to make sure people can begin their day with great coffee and kind smiles! I so appreciate their hospitality and expertise. Lydia is an excellent barista.

Very convenient for those staying at any of the several hotels in the area, this shop is located in the lobby of Renaissance. They have several sandwiches, pastries and snacks available as well as hot and cold beverages. They have indoor or outdoor seating, or you can take to go. Remember to ask for a mug if you are enjoying your order in their restaurant or in the beautiful lobby of the hotel…one less cup to the landfill.

Update: I went by a bit earlier today and the commuter crowd was lined up. Helen was handling the barista counter and got everyone their orders quickly, with that wonderful smile and the quality perfect,...

Just meh. I was a fan of the long-closed Illy coffee at the Renaissance at New Hampshire Ave. & M St. in the District, and I decided to give this place a try. Hopes. Dashed. None of my old favorites were on the menu, the barista knew nothing about coffee, and the brew I ended up with was twice as expensive as McDonalds swill at half the experience. Add in an incredibly noisy refrigerated convenience-store-like grab-and-go unit that drowns out conversation. It’s not an Illy coffee, it’s a hotel coffee counter with Illy branding. No, I won’t...

I just ordered from this place. It’s overworked and understaffed, my order was completely incorrect, they just gave me a coffee with caramel in it and some ice. Spent 30 dollars on this for basically an apple juice, the only thing that was good; and that came bottled from Dole.

Strongly don’t recommend. Whoever owns this place needs to staff it with co workers that actually understand one another and can provide a more...
