What a stellar, Veteran-owned restaurant with an inventive menu, kind and top-notch service, and fresh, out-of-this-world offerings.
Our server was amazing and so on her game - bummed we didn’t catch her name. The owner even stopped by toward the end and was so gracious and warm.
My mom ordered the Plantains Foster pancake stack (such a smart twist on bananas foster). The pancakes were served with hot syrup (a nice touch) and piled with tender, sweet plantains and a caramel-like sauce. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles breakfast pizza and it was easily the best pizza I’ve ever had. The pizza crust was insane - so light and airy. The pizza was studded with waffle pieces, breaded chicken, scrambled eggs, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, and then coated with a sriracha maple syrup (almost a hot honey vibe; gave it just the right amount of sweetness). The flavor combination was to die for. We shared Goose’s Potato Hash (a must order!) and some sweet potato fries (seasoned to perfection and served with a delish aioli). The potato hash was served in a hot dish, casserole-style, and was seasoned and baked to perfection. It was loaded with cheddar cheese, shredded hash browns, sour cream, and crispy potato straws on top (the perfect touch, adding a little crunch). We also loved that the coffee was served in glass mugs, which was a nice elevation of your classic white ceramic diner mug.
In my opinion, they are doing brunch like no one else. They put a fun spin on breakfast classics and they execute it impeccably, putting them in a league of their own. Their menu is thoughtful, approachable, and light-hearted. Not that Fredericksburg doesn’t have a killer food scene of its own, but truly, you’d almost think you were in a particularly hipster, foodie city like Asheville, which is really cool.
J’s would be well-suited to a special occasion (already mentally making birthday brunch plans), while also being the perfect spot to make an ordinary weekend feel special.
Their brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays from 9-1. Add this one to your list, and build your weekend around it....
Read moreThis business was “a tremendous failure.” I googled the business where it reflected a 4 mile delivery service. (See attached picture) The lady answering the phone took my address and credit card and accepted it for process. This business authorizes a 10 mile delivery radius. I placed the order at 6:07 pm. And confirmed it would be no more than a hour. I call at 7:22 pm where the same lady answers and realizes she inputed the wrong address and the delivery driver was far away at another address in Stafford but would head my way. I live in Fredericksburg and told her that - to include my zip code. During the same call, she said that after reviewing my address it was in fact “11” miles away, but nonetheless, they do not deliver south on 95. I indicated to her there was no disclaimer on their advertisement that they don’t deliver south, but rather within 10 miles. Every advertisement - to include their take out menu - features a 10 mile radius delivery. She ended the call abruptly over this issue. She called back at 7:31 pm to tell me that the driver would not be delivering to my house and I could come pick it up at the restaurant! A huge disservice… she also mentioned I could also come in the future for another order. This call takes place 1.5 hours later. And, now, at this point, for me to go to and from would be another 40 minutes making this “process” over two hours. Above all, my wife caring for a 6 week old and my 2 year old have been waiting around…were screaming in the back ground of these calls for the prolonged dinner and reliance on the delivery. NEVER AGAIN! Dropped the ball and poorly handled. If I could leave less than 0 stars I would. But I have 1...
Read moreI have been ordering from Js for over 6 years and I have always enjoyed the food. Here in the last few months, the food has gone way down. The last few times I have received over cooked fries, missing items, burnt food, and incorrect orders. This last order I received, I had burnt fries, a gyro that literally only had dry meat and bread with no sauce or cheese and no salad, the steak and cheese was mostly onions, and the bacon cheese fries were so burnt they were hard as a brick. I had enough and called to report the issues I had with my order. The employee who answered the phone was clueless and just said “oh I’m sorry” as if an apology fixes the issue… so I then asked to speak to the manager. The manager Erica got on the phone and was rude and does not know how to talk to people. She would cut me off to tell me I was wrong and wouldn’t let me speak. Erica claims she had worked as a manager there for a long time and told me that an item I was reading off of a menu right in front of me was not something that they have ever served.. I have been ordering the same thing for over 6 years and I was staring at the menu that clearly had it written out. Even if the menu has been updated within the last year I received the one I have, a manager who claims to have worked there for so long would have knowledge of item changes. Regardless, the way she spoke to a customer is unsettling and I will no longer have an interest in ordering from a business that treats their customers this way or serves such poor quality of food and expect...
