I've visited this shop many times and am not impressed. I kept going despite my reservations, hoping things would significantly improve. They have not. The coffee is often dispensed lukewarm, the service is inconsistent. The menu items are often overpriced. There's a good selection of light casual tablefare here to be clear, but like the coffee its a hit or miss proposition. To me, it's pretty clear that the main draw here is location, and certainly not the coffee, food, or the evironment (which is anything but warm, comfortable, or endearing). There is a certain industrial chic to the place but the fact that there exist no real comfort chairs to sink into with a good book makes it pretty clear the owners don't really want you to stay too long here.
If you want consistently hot coffee and a better overall service experience, there are many and varied alternatives for your're consideration in the Roanoke area, including Starbucks, Famous Anthony's, Ernie's downtown, or even IHOP.
IF you must have your coffee fix local to the Tanglewood Mall however, it is imho quite unfortunate that Mill Mountain Coffee may be your only choice, at...
Read moreUpdate: I decided to give it one more try, figured I'd get just a plain black cup of coffee. Unfortunately, it tasted straight up like it was steeped in rolling tobacco, and not in a good way.
I feel bad giving such a low rating, but their coffee is really not good. I've been here 5 separate times with months in between wanting to give it another chance, and each time their coffee was pretty bad with no real flavor.
I usually get a latte and they don't seem to use any technique to steam the milk, they just stick in the steam wand and blast it. They always scald the milk, and the espresso is not strong at all, so even a 12oz latte with a double shot just tastes like hot milk and I feel like I've wasted $3-$5 on something I end up throwing out before I'm even halfway through it.
I really wanted to like them because I'd rather support a locally founded business than a chain like Starbucks, but unfortunately that's not the case. The staff is plenty nice and the establishment itself is neat and inviting, but for me it's first and foremost about the...
Read moreThis place has so much unrealized potential. It's as if they want to see how long they can survive despite doing so many things poorly. I'm not saying it is the most poorly run restaurant that I've been to, but it's probably the most poorly run that is still open. The space and location are great, but the lighting is dim, there is no music, and, due to concrete floors, metal furniture, and lack of décor, it's like an echo chamber with no atmosphere. The food is actually pretty good when they're not out of half of the menu. And, the service is not bad when more than one person is working. It's just such a shame that this place continues to limp sloppily along when so many other restaurants make a real effort yet fail. And, in case the covid excuse is offered, I can say from personal experience that these issues existed long before anyone ever heard the word covid. I keep giving them another chance hoping they right the ship, but today...
