Consumer Alert, Must Read Mexican Restaurant Si Senor 10608 Warwick Blvd.
Gets an "F" for their after actions.
My story begins on December 22, 2022, a friend and I visited this restaurant to celebrate her Birthday. For me it was the first time. Service was absolutely fantastic, very friendly atmosphere and the food was excellent. At the end of our dining experience, I paid the bill via my Visa and a shared $10.00 (2 5's) was left in cash as the tip. We exited the facility, me Wowed at my experience!
December 24, 2022, while at home my alert goes off for my Visa card indicating the Si Senor restaurant has updated from $34.03 to $41.03 for a tip. There is a "0" in the tip section of the mirrored merchant and consumer's receipt and a cash tip was left.
I pulled out my receipts to contact the restaurant about this illegal activity that just transpired. The person answered the phone, I immediately asked to speak to a manager, no managers were in, he stated. At this point another person gets on the phone and I explain my dilemma and advised them that I want my money back immediately, the apologies begin. The alarming piece of the situation for me was before I gave any receipt information the person on the phone advised he was unable to put my money back on my Visa, ummmm my Visa how does he know this? I question these actions and wonder if this was a mistake or their practice. What really got my Goat was, he stated that I wrote $7.00 in as a tip. Well, that's a lie and I advised not only is that a lie your restaurant has perform an illegal transaction on my card by not only charging my card but by changing a document after it was completed and signed by me. Remember that 2nd person that picked up the phone well he turned out to be my waiter the evening of December 22, 2022. Remember at this point no receipt information has been provided. He repeatedly stated that the waiters are not allowed to operate the registers to run the receipts that only certain folk there could. He then recalls who I am and where we sat (because there was laughter) and he remembered the 2 5's that was left as a cash tip for the bill that evening.
I was advised that conveniently the restaurant could not put my cash back on my card but, it was stated they will give me my money back in cash.
On 12-27-22 I took time out of my schedule to return to this location to pick-up the cash that was taken off my card. Upon arriving my waiter was conveniently there. Conveniently he is operating the register that the waiters are not allowed to operate. He scans a card and opens the register and hands me my awaiting cash.
This is a lesson for all, are you being charged for a tip after you've paid a cash tip and left the restaurant. Are you spending your money wisely or is someone else making mistakes that is taking your money...
Read moreThis is a great little hidden gem. Located on Warwick Blvd in Newport News.
Don't let the outside look deceive you. It may look small & to some maybe a little dated, but it is well worth the stop. The inside is kept up nicely.
Very pretty booth designs, seats are comfy. Tables are nice. There's a small bar area. Bathrooms are clean & spacious, located at the front of the restaurant to the far right as you enter.
My husband ordered the fried seafood chimichangas which he loved. They came topped with extra shrimp. The plate looked good, large portions. My kids ordered the chicken strips with fries & the cheese quesadilla with rice. All were very good. We grabbed an early dinner. My bunch got caught in one of the pics still showing down, ha.
Lunch prices cut off at 2:30 pm & please note, if you see menu prices online, don't assume that is what it will be when you arrive.
Menu's do change from time to time & depending on when that photo or review was done, prices can go up or down depending on the economy.
If you do online ordering always call & verify prices before placing order by online menu photos.
My thing is always, "how's the dips" I judge most Mexican restaurants by their dips in portions, look & of course, the taste.
Their cheese dip was great. If you order the large, it will come as 2 separate regular size bowls of dip. If you order the regular you get one bowl. You can see the jalapenos & other ingredients finely chopped up in it. Not overwhelming in flavor. The balance was just right. Sorry my bunch sucked that cheese dip down before I could get the picture, lol.
But it was really good. I'll add a pic next time I visit.
Here are a few pics from our visit there today. The inside is very clean with a nice feel. The outside was clean & kept nice. Hope you get a chance to swing by Si Senior's place here in...
Read moreAll I can say is “WOW.” Where to start? We randomly came across this location based on the reviews alone, so we walked in with high hopes. Normally, when that happens, we’re let down and leave disappointed; but not today! The staff is great here, the food is even better!
The steak fajitas are excellent, the seafood chimichangas are superb, and the guac is some of the best around Hampton Roads. We get ours without jalapeños, much to the staff’s chagrin; it’s not the heat at all, I just personally don’t like the flavor of jalapeños. But it was made excellently! It was just super obvious how much we were being silently judged, haha!
A huge group came in at the same time as us, I’d wager at least 20 people straight out of Sunday service, so we were expecting them to take most of the attention from the staff; but we were incredibly surprised by how well the wait staff handled the load and still helped all their other tables as if they were the only guests in the house! Our cups stayed full, the food came out lightning quick, and everything was exactly as ordered. I can’t pay the staff enough compliments! Hey Google, can I give six stars?!?
I’m jealous of the people in Newport News; we have yet to find such a great restaurant specializing in Mexican cuisine anywhere on the other side of the tunnels, where we live. We’ll be making this restaurant a key reason to trek back across the...
