Rocky Mount BBQ — Restaurant in Virginia

This was not a good first experience or impression for me. The door way just to get in is dangerous and very very uneven. The young lady at the desk may of been having a bad day or something not sure. AND I still have her a tip although she didn't do anything but take my to go order! On to the food and the super long azz wait. She said 15mins... it was literally like 40 mins..40 MINUTES FOR SOME PLAIN BLAND FOOD. THE BBQ WAS OK CONSIDERING IT'S A BBQ PLACE. THE BAKED CHICKEN WITH THE NASTY LOOKING CHEAP BBQ SAUCE WAS TERRIBLE...NEGATIVE 5 TERRIBLE. LOOKED LIKE A KID FIXED IT. POTATO SALAD WAS BLAND AND PALE. BAKED BEANS HAD LOTS OF POTENTIAL BUT WAS BLAND ALSO. MY DAD SIDE OF MY FAMILY IS FROM TARBORO NC. SO I KNOW NORTH CAROLINA BBQ AND FOOD. THIS IS NOT IT! ROCKY MOUNT IS RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO TARBORO AND FOR THIS PLACE TO HAVE THE NAME THE FOOD SHOULD OF REMINDED ME OF HOME ALTHOUGH I WAS BORN IN VA! THE SERVICE, FOOD, AND WAIT WAS JUST A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT TO SAY THE LEAST. I WON'T BE GOING BACK EVER! Rocky Mount BBQ was a HUGE disappointment for me. I ordered it for dinner anticipating a good meal because I was hungry and heard this was a good BBQ spot, so I gave it a shot. Everything looked good when it arrived, but the taste was unlike anything I’ve ever had. The BBQ was the worst I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot from all over. The collard greens were good, as were the hush puppies , but everything else was a letdown. The ribs, chicken, and baked fish were all missing some key ingredients to make then taste decent………seasoning. It’s like the food was previously boiled and then “grilled" with zero seasoning on it. The fish had what looked like seasoning, but all of the meat lacked any type of flavor. The ribs and chicken had this nasty red sauce on it that was supposed to be sweet and tangy, but tasted more like straight ketchup. I had to remove the sauce from the meats in order to force myself to eat it. The mac-n-cheese was not tasty at all, and neither were the dumplings. They were so bad that I didn’t even finish them. After having high expectations for a BBQ joint that I heard so much about I was left extremely disappointed and unhappy. I would not recommend this place at all. These ribs are different from all others I’ve eaten & reviewed (in every way but not in a bad way!).These are spare ribs and are cooked differently from the others I’ve reviewed . The server explained that these are first boiled in their spices and seasonings. Then they are put in the oven with the sauce. I requested sauce on the side. These are much larger than the baby backs. These were well seasoned and VERY tender. Due to their size, they were also very filling. The collard greens were the ABSOLUTE BEST. I had some the other day in a different restaurant that I THOUGHT were the best but these collards are even better than those!!!! In fact, they’re better than ANY I’ve had in this area inclusive of all of the soul food restaurants I’ve tried! The hush puppies were hot and fresh. The bottle of SEASONED vinegar they put on my table was exceptionally good. The sweet potato casserole was good too. The banana pudding was fair but neatly made. The restaurant and bathroom were SUPER clean and very well maintained. The staff is extremely polite, nice, helpful and clean! All servers PROPERLY wore their masks.
