Tony's Diner & Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia

My husband and I have been regular customers of this diner since it opened. Regular customers that visited the restaurant 2 to 4 times a week, I might add. We have always been very satisfied with the food and service. However, a few months ago we went in for breakfast and after paying our bill, as we got to our car the server (who I might add was a very sweet young lady) came running out to tell us that she had given us the wrong check. Our check was for about $6 more than the one I had paid. I was shocked. However, I was afraid that if I didn't go back, the poor girl would have been charged for the mistake. I was very surprised that the owner did not offer to comp the $6 considering what good customers we had been. I am also surprised that he did not stop the server from even coming out to tell us. I owned a restaurant at one time and sometimes you just HAVE to make special compensation for loyal patrons. That being said...We have been back a few times since then because the food and service are good but, the frequency of our visits will never be like before. I hope the owners read this and learn from their past mistakes. Greed will get you absolutely nowhere and you will end up losing more in the long run. 10.2024 The customer service was good. Friendly and attentive. I ordered the club sandwich. It looked amazing, unfortunately the bread tasted like cigarette smoke. I had a several bites to make sure. It wasn't through the entire sandwich...mostly just the outside. I didn't send it back as I was having lunch with a friend I hadn't seen since highschool and she was on her lunch break. I didn't want to make a fuss, others had given good reviews, and I don't live there, so I probably won't be back to dine there any time soon. I hoped it was an isolated incident. I have hesitated from even writing this review since I didn't bring it to their attention and give them an opportunity to fix it. Food was meh and service was even worse. Ordered the Michael’s signature sandwich with home fries. The menu said the sandwich came with tomatoes but I didn’t get any. My husband ordered the same sandwich and his didn’t have tomatoes either. But we didn’t tell the waitress (her name was Gabby) because she was so slow and didn’t pay any attention to our table and took forever to get our stuff, so we didn’t even bother. The home fries had no flavor until I doused them with salt and pepper. Even then they were average. The waitress only checked in on us once and we had to remind her three times we wanted more coffee. When she brought out the waters, she just handed them to my husband who then had to distribute the waters to everyone else at the table. He basically did her job for her and she didn’t even say thank you. When she brought out the food she didn’t give us utensils, we had to ask for them, and the napkins were dirty when she brought them out. We won’t...
