Gumbo Kitchen Chinese Food — Restaurant in Visalia

Gumbo Chinese surprised us — in the best way We weren’t totally sure what to expect with a name like Gumbo Chinese, but this place came through — big time.

We ordered the ginger beef and pan-fried noodles, and both were solid hits. The ginger beef was bold, savory, and just the right kind of spicy-sweet. The noodles had great flavor, and while I personally wish they were a bit crispier, my wife really liked the texture just as it was — and she’s not easy to impress when it comes to noodles, so that says something.

We also got the orange chicken with chow mein, and that combo absolutely delivered. Crispy, flavorful chicken, paired with those noodles made it one of my wife’s favorite dishes of the night.

Overall? Gumbo Chinese is a low-key gem. Flavor-forward, generous portions, and clearly made with care. Next time I’ll just ask for extra-crispy noodles, but either way — we’re definitely coming back.

Lived in Visalia for 20+ years and I've always seen this place but never gone. It's easily the best Chinese food in the city in my opinion. A sweet older Asian couple are the only people working and they are very friendly and accommodating. The food is absolutely DELICIOUS. And the price is cheaper than most if not all the other Chinese places in the city. We got broccoli chicken, broccoli beef, and orange chicken with fried rice and chow mein and I will absolutely come back and try the whole menu. The flavor of each dish was so POP WOW AMAZING. Definitely recommend to anyone craving delicious food. Me and my fiance cam back and ordered ONE lunch special plate for the both of us and it was plenty of food....

I'm not sure how there are good reviews within the last couple of weeks. For starters, the cooks did NOT wash their hands before cooking our food. The cooks were eating/on phone/resting their head down when we walked in so they were clearly on a break. I tasted a small bite of everything, because well im not rude and I did not want to just toss it and leave which i should have since i was eating food that was prepared by someone that didnt wash their hands. No flavor at all and we both got stomach aches. Unfortunately, I'd give zero stars if I could. I sure hope they step their game up, because years ago they were one of the best!! Very...
