I came here for lunch on a rainy mild Saturday, wanting to cross another ramen place off of my list. I normally avoid ramen at places that aren't "ramen" first in their name, but the reviews sounded good enough.
The place has a very "college town" restaurant feel, I don't know how to describe it, but it didn't give me inspiration immediately. I was told that I could look at the menu via the QR codes on the table, and I either missed the ordering part or wasn't told, but I thought the QR code was also the link to order. I asked a couple next to me if I order up front, and they explained that I order on the iPad up front, print out a ticket, and then give it to the cashier. A bit weird, I think.
I paid and went to my table, I ordered a Chashu Ramen with medium heat. It was served to me without a word, though quickly. Customer friendliness didn't seem to be a focus, but I can overlook that.
What I couldn't overlook was how...sloppy the bowl looked. It gave me an immediate indication that the ramen wasn't going to be stellar, and it wasn't. The chashu was tough, even the fatty outer part was tough. The broth was, well it wasn't rich and milky creamy how Tonkotsu is, more of a murky appearance. The spice level was too much, and I don't mean that I couldn't handle it, I handled it just fine, but I don't think medium spice should be so much that it completely distracts from the broth. It didn't matter, the broth didn't seem super high-quality. It's the only bowl of ramen I had this month (6 total) where I didn't finish it. I just had no care to.
Lastly, the noodles. The noodles were clumped together in a dome shape at the bottom of the bowl. Stuck together like they'd been sitting in a plastic to-go container and just dropped in. No care for plating at all. They were unremarkable and thin.
Lastly the decor in the dining area is...Well it looked aged and a chunk out of the table I was sitting at was missing.
At no point did any part of the experience encourage me to ever come back. It wasn't awful, it was just dreadfully mediocre at best.
I'd give this place a 2.25 to maybe a 2.5 because I didn't get sick, and the food was palatable, but I can not imagine anyone would prefer the ramen here over places like Kokoro Ramen, Rai Rai Ramen,...
Read moreWe recently got two online orders, they forgot to add shrimp to the bowls. I called back once we got home and explained, they offered to give a gift card as compensation but I'd have to drive in and get it. So at that point I told them I'd bring the bowls back in and they can replace it.
I called at 730, got to the store 745. I explained to the "owner" the situation and they took the bag and said they would remake the order. I sit down, 3 people walk in, they get their order made and leave, 5 more people walk in, order, and leave. It's now 840 and I still do not have my order. When I asked the owner she blamed one of the new employees for not making it in time. Saying that he "forgot. " Honestly pathetic , 0 accountability, 0 care for the customer, I'll never go back. The shrimp tempura isn't that good. Haha and to top it off the "owner" made it wrong again.
4 years ago :My girlfriend and I come here almost every weekend . The good : the food is consistently pretty good. And most.of.the staff is very polite and helpful. Making it an all around enjoyable experience.
The bad : I've been served by probably every staff member. But I've experienced 2 bad trips where the owner and another gentlemen. (Different occasions ) seems irritated . Almost stand offish. Gave very little veggies on both bowls. Out of all of the visits here the two poor occasions alone make me consider finding another place. Or just the other Oki...
Read moreI originally came here because I wanted to challenge someone's review saying the ramen here tastes like Japan. But I ended up getting the rolls (seems like that's the main thing here) and wow I was pretty impressed.
Because this place is not serving regular traditional rolls, I did not grade based on this standards. I ordered a Maki roll with salmon. My initial concern was how the raw salmon would taste given how they stored it and it was fine (sashimi grade salmon is hard to make taste bad. One would have to store it in very poor conditions for the raw salmon to taste bad but because of the fat content, it is usually alright).
Based on other recommendations, I got wasabi honey, Asian slaw, onion, cucumber, Mango, and topped off with fried onion. Presentation of the food was great. They are really good at wrapping thic burritos. Taste was amazing the combinations of sweet and salty and savory was great. By the end of the Maki roll, I was full. With tax, the order came out to be $10.61. Eating great tasting food and that price point and being full made me come to a conclusion of 4.5 (4 being good, 5 being amazing, 4.5 being pretty darn good)
Next time I come, I will be trying the ramen and WI be updating my review accordingly. Good job...
