Google listed 4 pm as a closing time for this establishment, FYI: not correct it is 3. We walked in at 2:45 and the guy at the register seemed bothered, unfriendly and not welcoming at all and to add injury to insult he had big over the ear headphones on while I was giving him my order. It was my first time here so I had no idea what to get so I was looking at the menu which seemed to irritate him. I settled on the pastrami and water, my guest had the pastrami with cream of potato soup and a drink. Food is expensive, $28 was our bill. The pastrami was deli meat.. Save yourself some money and get yourself a pound of pastrami from your deli, some Swiss cheese, hamburger bun and toss it in the microwave you'll have the same sandwich. We sat down and the guy from behind the counter with his headphones on began slamming chairs on top of each other when 2 people came in and he told them they were closed and that they closed at 3. This business needs to reflect the correct closing time on Google. 2 stars for the soup and for the polite lady that served...

It was alright, I don't really agree with the rave reviews which convinced me to come here. The wait was absolutely ridiculous for a Thursday before the lunch rush and what I consider to be a basic order. It took about 45 mins. It was for 2 people, both ordering everything exactly as it was on the menu. There's no sign when you walk in saying to order first or anything, kind of confusing. It was not that busy at this time. It wouldn't hurt to have someone walk around and clean the tables. I think the bread is gross. I'm an average baker and I've made better bread at home. I'm from Austin and originally NYC/CT. This place would not survive whatsoever in any of those three places. People raving about this place have no standards of food. Barely any meat on the sandwich, both mine and person I went with. I was still hungry after eating what I ordered. Drinks are grossly over priced. The tea is absolutely terrible. It was barely sweet. The bathroom was disgusting. The toilet paper was on the floor. The holder was broken. Would...

I came to the sandwich shop today because the sandwich i had was pretty good I noticed the place to be very white not deterred by that I ordered my sandwich and sat down shortly after that a homeless man came walking into the building he didn't bother any patrons all he did was go to the bathroom and left no more than he left an older lady from behind the counter came out and posted a sign on the front glass no no solicitors I found this to be very rude and I felt very bad for the man who just came to use the bathroom he is obviously going through times the employee of this business did not have to act like that I will never spend another dollar at this business I will find other sandwich shops to buy my lunch from furthermore I will make sure that everybody I knows will not patronize this business either hopefully management reads reviews so they can improve their service oh by the way it was more important to put up that sign than to...

Ever since I moved here people have been telling time, "you have to go to schmaltz and get a schmaltz sandwich!!" So today I went and it was incredible. I'm personally not a big sandwich guy, but this was incredibly delicious and surprisingly very filling! And the bread they use is out of this world yummy especially with the garlic butter. Idk if its homemade or not but my gosh it was good! The potato salad is also good and they make their own tea!! It's cheap and it's located downtown so it doesn't get much better and they have their own small parking lot! Definitely go give this place a chance in your lunch rotation!!

These guys are the best! They've been around forever and the food is always A+ consistent. I always get the chef salad with double meat, but the regular chef salad still has plenty. They packed my to-go bowl so full that I turned it upside down on a plate to break it up. When I did this, it turned into this upside-down salad cake thing that I thought was hilarious! It was absolutely delicious as usual. I thought the employees would get a kick out of this so I'm including a pic of the "cake". P.S. Please refer to the actual pictures of their salads on other reviews before you judge their product. They are beautiful.

This is such a cool, friendly sandwich place - just a couple of blocks from the Dr Pepper Museum. The perfect place for a filling lunch after visiting the museum. Their namesake sandwich - the Schmaltz sandwich - sounds absolutely delicious but I didn’t try it (not a ham eater). Instead I had their veggie sandwich on the jalapeño cheese bread. Really good! Others on my table had the chef’s salad and other sandwiches - all were delicious And the folks behind the counter are friendly and patient if you have any questions. Make this a “must visit” place on your next trip to Waco.
