I have had two experiences with this hotel. I will start out with the positives. The staff is very friendly and enthusiastic. It is a small hotel compared to the others, so they are able to give more attention to detail. It is located in an area of Waco that allows for you to walk to a restaurant, or a coffee shop, shopping, ice cream or a concert. It is not far from Baylor university which is very convenient. it has a restaurant within, which makes it convenient to have dinner, and they have a nice selection of beer. They have done a wonderful job with decorating & it has a very warm home like feel. My first experience was in April and we stayed in room seven which was a very positive experience. I was excited to come back in May and was given room three which was a very negative experience. As soon as we walked in, we smelled mold, and the allergies immediately began with sneezing, sinus, congestion, sore throat, headache, and not feeling well the next morning. I brought this to the attention of the front desk and the front desk representative mentioned that there was a complaint earlier in the week about mold as well, however, they did not properly address it or prevent other customers from being in this room. The smell is coming from the bathroom, the strongest, and you can see in the shower that there is mold, coming up from the tile grout. A manager on duty came into the room with us, and even though she intended to be kind and accommodating, I was gaslit and told that all of the rooms smell this way. I know this to be incorrect because my stay in room seven the previous month did not have this smell, Nor did I feel any of the symptoms I did in room three. I specifically stayed in this hotel because of my positive experience the first time, the convenience, and the comforts it provides. I paid double of what I would have at another hotel which I was happy to do, however, I will not be returning to this hotel because they do not seem to take this seriously. Their only reply was that they would have the maintenance person take a look at it. They clearly need to get mold remediation in here, not a maintenance person who more than likely will not have the training and understanding of what’s going on, and if they do detect a problem, usually the...
Read moreWe were so disappointed with this hotel. 1st - they did NOT tell us that they had a private party that would be viewing a movie at top decibels for hours. The sound resonated in to the room - you could hear the dialogue and for sure the music (Harry Potter). we called down to find out what time the movie was over (it was nearing 10 pm) they said "soon". The movie ended after 10pm and then the restaurant staff blasted music to close for another 20 minutes, we called down again and asked them to turn the music off. It took about 5 minutes for that to happen. 2nd - everything in town was closed because of the cold weather. the restaurant is closed on mondays and that is the only source of room service for the hotel. even though they had a private party and staff, we couldn't get any food or drink. 3rd- the staff was really under educated. They didn't know much about anything having to do with the hotel and amenities. We asked about checking out a day early when we came in (we had booked three days and quickly realized we only needed 1-2). they said we couldn't cancel, even though our booking said 48 hours, and that would have at least gotten rid of the last day. We ended up eating the cost. For those visiting Magnolia- you only need a day there, if that. There is literally ZERO to do in Waco other than Magnolia. We asked the college kids what they did "we mostly just hang out at the walmart" I kid you not. Not worth staying more than a night. However this hotel is located next door to Magnolia which is great. The rooms were very clean and nice, but they definitely didn't test them with guests- there were some things that just weren't quite right like super low sinks and not enough space between th faucet and the sink bowl. There is not a way to turn on the shower really, without getting wet. and the floors are all cement so when its wet is liable for a...
Read moreHigh expectations but dissapointed. For the positives, this is a very pretty hotel, and the rooms are exactly what I'd expect for an upper class Waco hotel. The hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and professional. The beer is exactly as expected for a Czech place, and being a Texan I really, really appriciate that. The Negatives: As other reviewers stated, this place does feel like the owner's are resting on their laurels a bit, and letting the place decay without attention to the items reported by their guests. In my experience, which was to be a relaxing night to rest before driving further northward. The room fridge, which I only noticed about 3-4am was so loud that it vibrated items in the bathroom, but of course a low enough frequency that I didn't notice it until I just didn't get any sleep. I also noticed as I left that morning that you could hear it half way down the hall. It's hard to believe that the staff didn't notice it, but as it was a pretty low frequency it would be easy to miss so we can give that a pass. I would have with the exception that after reporting that to the reciptionist that next morning, and checking out to ensure that I didn't owe anything (short night with nothing taken from the in-room ammenities), I got home to a 4$ish charge to my card. I called back and was told it was for "gum". Very dissapointing since I don't even chew gum, and since I was by myself in the room I certainly didn't take it. By itself that would have been no big deal, but put the two of them together with the addition of how much more expensive this place was compared to the other choices within blocks of them, I won't be back. Which is really too bad because the place could be soooooo nice. Czech history runs deep in Texas, this shoud (and could be) a fitting tribute to that, rather than just a cheap facade to...
