I never write reviews but....
I ignored all the signs that I should not have ordered from Bombay Hut in Waldwick, NJ. I happened to pull into the strip mall to make a phone call and noticed the restaurant. I thought, “I haven’t had Indian in a while, let’s give it a try.”
First sign: I was the only customer in the restaurant. I excused it, thinking maybe it wasn’t lunch or dinner time. Second sign: The young girl behind the counter took my order and payment while sitting down, rushing me by saying I had less than 5 minutes to order the lunch special.
She told me it would be about ten minutes, so I waited outside. After fifteen minutes, I noticed a brown bag sitting on the counter. Since I was still the only customer, I asked if it was mine. She said, “You’re good to go.”
Well, it wasn’t so good. Back at the office, I opened the bag to find chicken instead of the lamb I ordered. The “lunch special” that supposedly comes with a salad and bottled water had neither. And the portion? Four tiny pieces of chicken. A coworker eating chicken wings next to me actually compared his one wing to my entire “entrée” — he had more meat.
And all of this cost me $18. For that price, you’d expect at least a proper portion and the order done correctly. Instead, I was left with a sad brown bag and a laughable excuse for a meal.
I immediately called the restaurant, and that’s when it went from disappointing to absurd. The same young woman answered and told me she didn’t remember my order because they had “quite a few customers.” (I was literally the only customer.) When I explained I was given the wrong protein and barely any of it, her reply was that “that’s the norm” — and she seemed confused as to why I was even calling.
The entire experience was insulting. From the empty restaurant, to the dismissive service, to the wrong and pitifully small meal, to the non-existent customer service — it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Final verdict: Don’t waste your time or money at Bombay Hut. $18 should buy you a meal, not a bad joke. There are plenty of places that value their customers and serve actual portions. This is not...
Read moreDont know how u got so many good reviews. Went in for authentic indian food which from the reviews i expected. And this definitely isnt authentic indian food at all. I dont know what it was. Best description i can give is indian dishes cooked by non indians so it had an American and mexican flare to it definitely not indian. Which i guess is why all these ppl saying 1st time having indian loved it and others said best indian they ever had that must be why cause it wasnt authentic at all more American indian and mexican indian. Cause most ppl i know say authentic indian food is to spicy or dont like the seasonings. Its kinda like Chinese food thats american Chinese not real Chinese food. I get it thats what ppl like here so in that aspect u did good making indian food that americans like. But as for authentic its definitely not and i was disappointed cause thats what i really wanted. I wish u guys continued success cause it seems popular but i wont be back cause i like real indian food not this. U should think of having 2 menus. Ur curent which i consider american style indian food and a second which is authentic indian food just a thought cause ive seen that before at korean reasturants and they do really good they got there american coustomers that order the american style and then they have the korean coustomers who ordered the authentic style...
Read moreI am writing this review as a recent customer. I am not comparing the food to any other indian restaurant in Bergen County but as an individual takeout.
I am very disappointed with the level of service. I decided to have the special- lamb saag which was $10.00- you get rice with this. I asked if i could change the rice to a naan or a roti- the man in charge promptly said NO!. No other words were said.
I have eaten indian cuisine since i was a child- i know what is good indian cuisine and what is not good indian cuisine. When you have a dry dish like lamb in saag- people tend to have a naan or a roti with the dish not rice- so for the manager/owner to rudely say NO to my small request was quite suppressing considering that they only recently opened.
It is funny to see GYROS on the menu. This is not an indian dish so I found this quite amusing.
Lack of Vegetarian dishes. They didn't even have the most common indian vegetarian dishes like daals/lentil dishes. If you are a vegetarian who have the choice of mixed vegetables and paneer and thats about it.
Normally if you go to an indian takeout they give you salad and chutney with your dish. They didn't provide this at all.
I will not be going to this establishment every again- service was appalling. Choice of...
