As a new NJ resident, I was super excited to check out the food scene in this area. My best friend was visiting and we were eager to try this place in particular. It looked like it was a bit busy, but it was understandable since it was Sunday at noon. We didn’t wait too long to get a table but we sat at that table for 30 minutes waiting for a waitress…. 30 minutes. Never in my years of serving tables did I witness someone not even get greeted by their waitress. We would’ve been ok with the wait but we were ignored for 40 minutes, not even a cup of water or utensils were brought to us.
We were outside and I’m assuming the waitress who had the tables next to us was our waitress. She came several times to refill their water, drop meals, their desserts, and drop their check. Every single time she made eye contact and then ignored us. At this this point we had had enough and were getting ready to leave. I decided to make one last stop at the door before taking off. We observed as the manager helped the people in front of us and then turned to us afterwards. It was clear that we were unhappy but we decided not to make a spectacle. I asked him how we were supposed to order since no one had come to greet or take our order. He replied by asking if no one had come over when it was obvious that he knew the answer already.
We then asked him to be honest if they had time to take our order since we had ready spent close to 45 minutes waiting. He instructed the waitress to take our drink order and left to check with the kitchen. When he returned, he informed us that it wasn’t possible for them to get our order ready in time for us to leave for our next commitment. We were disappointed and made a point to never even think about wasting our time here again. I don’t recommend that anyone set foot at this restaurant unless you don’t care about your time being wasted and the...
Read more(Update Review to below) My wife insisted that the family go again to give them another try as the first bad experience was possibly a fluke. There's a special secret entrance for her at Heaven because she always gives people/places a second chance.
Well not to my surprise nothing changed except that the prices went up. And while I received a fork this time, we were again overlooked and served after a few other patrons who came in later. And my wife now agrees with my original post and our current disappointment. There will be no 3rd time..
(Original Post) I may be really clueless about many things, but I do know when I am being bamboozled and overcharged. The food at La Vie En Rose is actually okay, but it is so overpriced. This would not be an issue if you did not also have to endure extremely unfriendly staff and significant wait times. There are many reviews (see Yelp) on the staff and the owner being rude. I did not experience rudeness, unless you consider being ignored for the basic necessities of a fork, napkin and water; oh and the serving of several other tables who came in much after you, before anyone at your table got served, as being rude. The staff is pretentious and inattentive, especially at their prices, but I am not fully convinced that they are intentionally rude. In short, pay an extremely high price for okay food and to be ignored and...
Read moreStopped in here for lunch but i should have read the reviews first. It seems the rudeness/ outright meanness of the staff toward customers is a regular occurence here. First we walk up to the counter politely asking if we order there and and the girl behind the counter snidely tells us it is a table service restaurant. Ok so is it free seating or is there a specific table we should use? At this point the owner steps in and shows us to a table. They ask if we need a high chair (for my 2 yr old) and we say yes please. It never comes and I am honestly too scared to ask again. The girl who took our orders seemed annoyed to be there, not to mention the offputting glares we get from the other girl working there. The food was fine. We got salads, so hard to mess that up. My son got a chocolate croissant and barely touched it. The worst was being called disgusting and the laughing by the girls working there while I was in the bathroom. There was no one else there at this point…. If you are going to insult your customers get a soundproof door at least. Anyway, we had thought it would be a nice brunch spot to come back to with the rest of the family but definitely will not be going back. Not kid friendly, or...
