I took the opportunity to step into the welcoming ambiance of Salted Mill just two weeks after opening. The space was expansive and open with rythmic bass pounding in the background of the shared conversations surrounding me. I as a party of one was sat at the last open seat at the bar. I enjoy the bar sitting as it allows a different vantage of the space from an accompanied patron. I ordered an 1880 off the cocktail menu and the their beef and lamb meatballs alongside a beet & tamarind salad. The mezcal based drink was a very spirit forward pour and left only the jalepeno behind for savoring, I was unable to discern the pineapple and lime and did not care for this pour. The meatballs were large and fulfilling, covered in a properly spiced tomato sauce. The airiness allowed for the moisture to be retained so they were definitely not dry. The pita bread accompanying the dish was very much overcooked and hard, even after sitting in the sauce. The salad was a flavorful balance of sweet, tart and crisp with the familiar kick of arugula but toned down by the mint within. Overall the salad was the winner, but the meatballs were a close second. If you are not a fan of very spicy very spirit forward drinks, I propose you abstain from the 1880, this was a difficult drink to stomach.

I’ve had a lot of cheeseburgers in my day, but the one from The Salted Mill easily takes the top spot. What sets it apart? It’s made on John’s Wheatland sourdough bread—a rich, flavorful, perfectly toasted foundation that elevates the entire burger. This isn’t your average drive-in meal; it’s a gourmet experience wrapped in casual charm. The burger patty is juicy and well-seasoned, the cheese is perfectly melted, and the fresh toppings bring everything together with just the right crunch. But that sourdough bread? That’s what makes it unforgettable. Slightly tangy with a crispy golden edge, it holds up beautifully without overpowering the classic flavors. If you’re anywhere near The Salted Mill, do yourself a favor and try the cheeseburger. It’s comfort food perfection with a local twist—and absolutely the best drive-in burger I’ve ever had.

We came to Walla Walla from NY to visit family and experience this beautiful area. On our first day of wine tasting, we were referred to The Salted Mill for dinner by our wine server. Well in the short 10 days we were here, we have gone twice for dinner.

This place is special. The staff is so warm and attentive. Our first night, we were seated in one of the barrel tables. So inventive!! There is so much attention to detail in the decor. There were four of us including one child. We had the duck, pork chop and yellowfin tuna. And the kids Mac and cheese. Out of this world!! First off, the presentation- yes you eat first with your eyes but the flavors!! The chef creations are so good you want to try everything on the menu.

Our second night it was just the two of us and we sat at the chef’s table. I highly recommend this experience if you are a foodie like me. The staff is synchronized and they take such care with your plate. We started with the tuna wontons (so good) and then the steak set and jerk chicken. Each bite was heaven. We ordered one salad and they spilt it without us even asking. We met such nice people and our waitress Emily was a total joy. We tasted delicious wines from the area that complemented our meals.

It’s hard to believe this place has only been open for a couple months. It was packed both times we were there. The wonderful staff were on top of everything. You can tell the ownership takes great pride in the food, decor and service to ensure you have a wonderful dining experience.

There is definitely a buzz going around about this place and it is...

Wow…. What a wonderful dining experience! The reviews and buzz around town are accurate. Salted Mill is the best! I have traveled to Walla Walla (Walla WONDERFUL as I have come to know the community) many times over the past five years to visit family. I’ve dined in many of the local restaurants, but Salted Mill is the most impressive dining experience. Menu, staff, atmosphere, food flavors and presentation, and prices are balanced to provide the utmost enjoyable dining experience. After my first visit dining in a wine barrel, my partner and I visited a second time at the chef’s table to watch the delicious meals being prepared. If you think you know what you want to eat before, just observe the kitchen staff prepare all the dishes, then decide! We changed our minds on appetizers after we saw the dishes being served! For being open a short time, the Salted Mill staff provided timely servicing of beverages, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. It seemed like we were never waiting for anything throughout the dining experience. As I have learned in my travels to Walla Walla, there is a passion in the people for making a visit enjoyable. The team at Salted Mill has that passion to make your dining experience...
