My husband and I were looking forward to celebrating not only our 13th wedding anniversary, but my 40th birthday here, and sadly, it was a horrible experience.
First, let me say that all of the staff were kind, attentive, and deserving of the tip we left.
The rest of the experience was as follows:
We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time and were promptly seated in the incredibly small, cramped, shoved in a tight corner table right by the front door, even though they were aware we were there for a celebration.
We were willing to live with this.
If you do not drink alcohol, your choices are essentially tepid water that was already half poured before we were seated (felt off-putting, like they were a previous diners water.), or basically Coke products. They do offer a non-alcoholic spritzer, but you're at the whim of the flavoring they choose for that night, which was mint-heavy.
We were willing to live with this.
We ordered the seasonal tomato salad and the meat charcuterie board. My husband greatly enjoyed the salad; however, why would anyone make almost every meat spicy on the board?
I cannot consume spicy food and didn't expect to face this issue all too much at a French restaurant. It should be noted on the menu or asked upon ordering if spicy is going to make up the main flavor profile of the board.
I was disappointed by this but was attempting to make the best of it for the sake of the evening, so ate bread they advertise coming from a sandwich chain drive through? (Graze)
By this time, the restaurant had filled to the brim for the dinner service, and unfortunately, this is when it became unbearable.
I have never, in my entire life, been in a restaurant so loud that I could not hear the person sitting across from me at a tiny table. It was incredibly overwhelming and absolutely ruined any chance of having a meaningful conversation with my husband.
We sat there, unable to hear each other over the all-consuming roar of seemingly intoxicated guests, or perhaps an entire room of humans who have zero situational awareness, so just talk louder and louder until they were essentially yelling just to communicate? Perhaps it was just the acoustics of the space and the bare bones decor, unable to soak up the sound?
Then, our main meal came. Steak Frite.
What's important to know here for context is we raise cattle, hanger steaks are our absolute favorite cut of meat, and I am very well-versed in cooking them. So, we were excited to see this on the menu, as we won't have more until fall harvest, and you only get two per steer.
This was the blandest meal I have tasted in a very long time, and it was such a sad waste of an otherwise tender hanger steak.
I don't believe a single grain of salt touched that piece of meat, or the horribly bland béchamel sauce. It was basically just thickened plain milk poured over top.
At this point, the flies began to attack...seemingly right at the exact time the setting sun beamed through the window and made me have to shield my eyes with my hand for the rest of the ordeal.
We persisted, trying to save the night, but the fries were so incredibly greasy it's obvious the oil in the fryer wasn't nearly hot enough. They also had almost no salt. The mayo dip was decent.
Please note, there is also no salt offered tableside, which I understand is typically to showcase the chef’s talents and assurance that their dishes need no additional seasoning...
This meal was sadly not worth the cost due to the sheer lack of flavor, the loudest dining room I have ever experienced, blinding sun with no shade option, and a relatively bad fly population crawling on our food every few minutes.
We didn't stay for dessert, and it was such a letdown we decided to simply end our evening and go home.
Thanks for helping us celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime milestone birthday and our...

My wife, son and I made a reservation for 4:30pm for the 10th of July. We arrived for a meal that we were expecting to be above reproach. We mad our order and waited……and waited. We got our drinks and I hoped this was not a harbinger of things to come, I was to be disappointed. I spent many a year as a cook, chef, however you want to classify it. We ordered apps, soup, and meals then proceeded to wait 20 min. The apps and soup came and were decent, they need salt, all in all not bad. We were sat out on the extended patio where the sun was beginning to swelter. We were not checked on for 15 minutes after the apps arrived when we got a second order of drinks due to the heat. We then waited an hour and thirty minutes baking in the sun. My wife is prone to heat stroke and the fact that we were made to wait this long made me angry. I went I. And asked for our table to be moved inside due to the heat. We were told once we were sat at the bar on stools that our dinner was being plated. 25 minutes later we were told the kitchen was short staffed tonight. Our meals then came two hours and five minutes after ordering them! My son had the Steak and fries. I thought they cut their own fries? My wife had the cold potato and leek soup with the ouef de mayo and I had Penn Cove Muscles. First my sons steak was cut wrong. It was pot roast, my meal had been sautéed in water with some butter. Where was the salt, garlic, butter, pepper, lemon? My fries were shoestring as well when they used to be steak cut. The steak was supposed to be medium rare and was closer to medium. My Penn Cove Muscles had no flavor and were Luke warm. The whole meal was awe full and there was no fixing it. When I KNOW I can do better I won’t go back. It seems the name of the restaurant should be Shortcuts as that’s all there was to the meal was nothing but shortcuts. Excuses are like garbage cans…Everyone has one and the all stink. I left the waitress a tip but wanted too withhold. I am posting this in an email to the restaurant as well as the union bulletin. This town needs a food critic. Maybe I’ll take...
