When this shop first open it was inviting and a quite respite from the local corporate offerings. Sad to say they are no longer focused on customer service and the shop has become pretentious beyond measure. The staff is consumed in pushing their personnel politics bent than serving the paying customer. The coffee is now of poor quality, their selections of tea no long remains, food offering are nonexistent and the charm that once oozed from this little coffee house had died under the boot-heal of the new regime. For your review I submit my last experience. We took our friends out for coffee and wanted to show off this spot and promote local a business. Our neighbor is quite the lady, managing 3 young teenagers and all the comes with getting them to their appointed activities, working with children with learning disabilities 40+ hours a week, managing a household and all that comes with that.. As many of you know carving out a few spare moments of your day for yourself is difficult if at all possible, yet she still remains sweet to a fault and is the last one to every cause a fuss.. You can image my sadness and horror when she simply asked for a latte with almond milk as her one simple pleasure for the week and was subjected to a 5 min lecture on the horrors of Almond milk, bla, bla ,bal... Now where this hard working mother of 3 would not think to make a scene, and I would not want to embarrass her we simply left the establishment and had to pass as we'd run short on time. Yes, we are all entitled to our beliefs, but I will not stand to see good folks belittled for any reason. There was no cause for a 5 min pretentious lectured on the horrors of Almond milk when a simple "sorry we don't offer this or that in a nice tone would" had informed the customer to make another selection. To bad as this shop had potential but I certainly will never return. I can assure my friends will never visit this establishment and this chain reaction will continue until the business is sold to owner with a bit more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTHE OWNER IS THE ONLY PROBLEM!! KINDNESS IS HIS MARKETING TOOL, BUT NOT HIS PRACTICE!
This place was great. Although the coffee and pastries are VERY mediocre, the staff was always kind and the ambiance pleasant.
I was a regular that came alone once a week with a laptop for about an hour and a half. I was without exception kind to staff (but otherwise kept to myself), always retuned my dishes and thanked them. I was always mindful of others by either opening the door to the back patio when their hands were full or offered to share seating if I had extra and noticed a need.
Today, the owner reminded me for the second time that I was sitting in a table available for groups although all tables have at least two seats or more. At that moment, there were easily three or four tables open. I acknowledged him and expressed a disposition to move or share were it to become necessary.
On my way out, this man called me aside, displeased with me being on my laptop (I was one of a plurality doing the same and use my own hotspot. He is considering banning laptops as a business owner to move people along.) and not moving immediately (although he never expressed a policy or actually asked me to move) and thought it wasnāt kind that I didnāt obey (my word) him. He even threatened to ask me not to come back!!!?!
I volunteered to never come back and asked him to consult with his employees about my history of ākindnessā there. I told him also the reason I sit at the larger, benched seating tables is because the others offer inadequate legroom and the seats are too low.
The employees here are great. Everything else is mediocre. This experience tells me that the owner does NOT always practice kindness. What I sensed was a petty, micromanaging authoritarian. This is backed by anecdotal evidence emerging from previous employees. Too bad to lose an otherwise pleasant local coffee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell it's one of those third wave coffee shops. Interesting owner and a refreshing philosophy that is evident in everything from the quotes on the wall to the customers only parking - the signs say you will receive "bad juju" for parking in spots you aren't supposed too. Funny but forgiving.
They have artisanal coffee roasts (single origin aplenty and blends alike) from every corner of the world that produces coffee. There are some mighty fine options available for the discerning connoisseur. Mostly coffee, tea, and other typical cafe beverage offerings with food limited to a small selection of pastries made by the same local baking company that provides pastries for Peet's coffee. But you're not going to be visiting for the food. They offer espresso and espresso based drinks made from your choice of beans. Also on offer is pour over drip coffee - also available in your choice of coffee roast. This is arguably one of the few places to offer such a large and premium selection of coffee roasts for individual drinks.
You can also buy beans here as by now I'm sure you have assumed. They are fairly pricey, premium, but very delicious. Ask for some direction if you need help with a selection, there is always a knowledgeable staff member to take your questions and point you towards what you're looking for.
Great place, hope to...
