Their noodle soups are okay, not bad, but not quite out of the world either. I like their dough consistency generally but their flat noodles were made a little too thick. Also, do note that they have a veggie noodle option - I initially thought it was a topping and we had some miscommunication.
I also tried their buns, which is very very good. I especially like them for their meat seasoning - it had some kind of seasoning in it and I thought it was a nice touch that sets them apart from normal buns. But their dough seemed a little soaked, so perhaps they have overcooked their buns or have let them sit for too long before serving.
Their interiors are nice and their restrooms are clean, a feat that's not easy for the amount of people they have coming in and out. With that, I am quite pleasantly surprised.
Overall though, I think it is good. I wasn't very happy with the attitude of the server when we had the miscommunication, but I understand why they misunderstood, so I think they still deserve a 4 star - would otherwise be a...
Read moreNorthern Cafe is a Chinese Noodle shop that is recommended by many of my Chinese friends who lives in LA and it's a real gem.
I saw they make a fresh Tor-Xia noodle right when I got into the restaurant. Tor-Xia noodle is a rare noodle that wouldn't find it easily. I'd love to have it so bad, but my Chinese friend said, leave it to her. So I better shut my door and wait for her to order.
Everything looked very delicious, unfortunately, we had so many foods already, and we were because of the fried Roti wrap with slices of grilled beef, scallion, and Hoi-Sin sauce. It's very very good, I remember I had it before in NY and it was a lot saltier!!
Beef Slices combine with a scallion aroma and a touch of Hoi-Sin sauce. TA-DA! it was perfect!
Another order was a side dish which is a shredded tofu skin, with a slice of cilantro, and carrot with a hint of sour flavor.
If I know it's this tasty, I'd order 2 more! lol
My friend promised me to bring me to Northern Cafe again for my next visit. Can't wait for...
Read moreMy boyfriend's mom has been wanting to come here for awhile, so when there was a special occasion to celebrate (her birthday!), she wanted to come here to try everything. I mean, what better way to try all the foods you're curious about than with a family style meal.
I think she ordered the whole menu. No lie! There was a time during the meal that I didn't see the table and we had to stack some plates to make way for new ones! Here's what we got:
Dry-fried string beans, yu-shiang eggplant (sauteed with peppers in garlic sauce), sweet n sour spare ribs, orange chicken, XLB, Shanghai stir-fried sliced rice cakes, grilled whole squid, fish fillets in chili oil and I think the last item was a poached two item in chili oil (intestine and something else).
I'm certain there was more I can't remember. It all became a blur of plates and the end of the meal required a lot of take out of boxes. Out of all the plates we tried, my favorites were the orange chicken, eggplant,...
