Since stumbling upon this restaurant a little over a year ago, it has been my go-to eatery, especially when I want to be able to choose between a variety of nice, hot meals. The service I've gotten has been second to none, to the degree that I've gone from one visit a week to three/four visits. The customer service is impeccable.
I've been most enamored, as well, with the management. I'll name two because they're the only ones who's names I know: Ms. T.J. and Ms. Shavon. These managers - and I apologize for any omission of others who've been integral - have set a culture that has truly changed my opinion of the very ilk; a team with a great mix of young & experienced staff is always on hand each time I visit and there's never a problem.
Yesterday - Sunday 09/29/2024 - I arrived just after opening. And the first thing I hear is a customer/guest that couldn't seem to keep his thoughts to himself/his mouth closed. When he got to the register, he was greeted by a young lady. She was very professional, rang up his order, gave him change properly, so there was absolutely no problem with her. But the customer began, without any reason or provocation whatsoever, to badger the cashier, causing her to feel embarrassed and she was visibly shaken by the man's assault on her intelligence.
Being an avid customer, myself, before I could say something to him in the cashier's defense, Ms. T.J. had taken the cause and in the fairest & firmest manner that I've in any setting of the ilk, she defended her staff, never raised her voice and certainly got her point across.
Okay, I may be a little bit biased, but because each subsequent experience I have had has been better..........I've been in Middle Georgia for better than 15 years and this one is the very best run I've seen, hands down......and the warm, welcoming atmosphere, coupled with great food, reasonably priced is a huge reason why I keep coming.
I have to give kudos to T.J. and Shavon for making this Fried Green Tomatoes location my "Must-Go-To." And, of course, for setting that culture, showing that young men and young women who might be first-time employees can rise above irate customers and those who simply lack people skills, themselves. That staff is great, due to the training they've received; that training that, to this dedicated customer, has the collective imprint of their management team. As they say in another setting: "My Pleasure" is what visiting this...
Read more4 out of 5 stars. Don't forget to bring your own spices.
My meal: 2 piece fried chicken (1 breast 1 leg) cheese grits, cabbage, corn bread, coke zero, peach cobbler. With tip, under $13.00 (I was a server too long not to tip)
Pros: Food is served at correct temperature, portions are good sized, folks are friendly, prices are great and I love that they use high quality plastic utensils.
Cons: No seasonings other than salt and sugar.
Don't miss: PEACH COBBLER!
My taste buds were crying for some seasonings other than salt or sugar. This worked on the perfectly juicy fried chicken breast, not as well on the equally juicy leg, and went downhill from there. (Except for the wonderful peach cobbler - menu winner hands down and it will bring me back!) The cabbage was at a good texture and temperature, just a bit salty and bland. Cheese grits tasted undersalted and like instant with no hint of cheese other than color.
Then there was the cornbread. Cornbread that tasted like actual cake - down to the texture, as if someone said "Hey, Jiffy mix isn't sweet enough, let's add MORE sugar to it!" I ate it for dessert.
Most of these things can be fixed to taste by bringing your own spices. I like black pepper and some seasoning blends that I can bring with me or add at home. You can't fix undersalted grits, but I know now to not order them. (They'd be surprised at how the business would grow if they'd develop a signature seasoning blend for the chain! - and use it)
And I will be there often for the delectable peach cobbler that is as good as I can make at home. Now if they'd only add cinnamon I'd...
Read moreFirst, I probably should have taken my business elsewhere when I had to order from the takeout window from a dry erase board ... But that is neither here nor there. When I arrived at the window, I placed my order for a veggie plate. I ordered; collard greens.. and was immediately stopped. "Ma'am we don't have any collard greens today." I'm like it's on the menu. ....the lady responded "Yea I have to take it off once I get time, you can go to Watson, they have them over there." I was like no, I sat here for 20 mins, I'm not traveling across town for one item. Anyhow so I move on to the next, I ended up getting black eyed peas, Mac and cheese and mash potatoes. I went to pay with my debit card, something was wrong with their machine, so I switched to cash. Once I received my food. I checked to verify, I had green beans, mash and macaroni. I told the lady "Ma'am I did not order green beans." She apologized and gave me the Mac and cheese. I also had to remind her about the corn beard that was supposed to come with the order... She insisted it was in the box, I advised her it was not. Food taste..... Mash potatoes - watered down and box stale taste Mac and cheese- taste like an easy Mac with elbow noodles Black eyed peas lacked seasoning Corn bread was the best item out of the entire meal. I was so aggravated I did not go back, but I do know I will not be going back to this location again. They need to go back to the drawing board with technical issues and...
