Almost everything about this place dissonates my cognitivitalities. I'll skip the talk about the weird layout of their parking lot... and go right to the "meat" of the problem--The chicken in the bento was VERY dry and the steak was well done (which was not what was ordered... I said medium) but the kids liked the shrimp noodles.
After getting the kids plates sorted, I had to distract myself by gazing around the store. There's not a lot to look at but I immediately felt something was somehow... off. The decor looked a flea market broke in and drunkenly trashed the place. The layout was bizarre, I felt like I was in a small American diner from 30-40 years ago and that I should've just ordered a coffee, black, with 2 sugars, and a slice of the key lime pie. Except that I was afraid of what that might taste like when accompanied by the signature "house" sauce (pssst..i was told it was thousand island).
Despite the illogical parking layout (go see for yourself), overcooked chicken & steak, and the appearence that an outdated American diner is dressed up for Halloween as a cheap giesha (but isn't really fooling anyone)... Despite all these things, the kids had a good time and enjoyed having a sit down family meal (which should've been done...
Read moreI adore this restaurant- it's the only reason i even go to russle parkway. The food is savory and yet has that wonderful simplicity expected of japanese cuisine. Additionally the prices are fantastic- you have a wide variety of hibachi meats- even squid, my personal fave. This place also has my favorite fried rice- nothing like the generic kind you'd get from fast food or takeout or the everyplace hibachi restaurant rice. The environment in the restaurant is calming and familiar- it's akin to eating at a friend's home. A close friend who invites you in and immediately offers you a drink and some television to watch while you both chill on the couch waiting for the the delivery you ordered. The hosts here have always been kind and attentive- they are why the intimate environment if this restaurant works so well! If you want real Japanese teppanyaki made by people who love their town- then Dai Ichi is the...
Read moreWe were looking for a nearby restaurant to the hotel and found Dai Ichi. The restaurant is in an odd spot, wedged between a car dealership and immediately in front of a storage facility. We arrived just before 6, and it was seat yourself. The menu isn't huge by any measure, but it has enough for a decent variety, including bento and hibachi offerings.
We both ordered hibachi dinners; salmon, shrimp and scallops, which include soup and small salad. Everything arrived in a reasonable time. The only thing off was that the rice was a bit firm, but other than that, it was good. The prices are fair and the portions large, thanks to a lot of...
