Very dissatisfied with Hook and Reel. I ordered a $125 seafood boil bag. It was 1lb head on and head off shrimp, a lobster, and snow crab legs. Upon our opening and getting ready to eat the bag, I noticed there were no crab legs. I double and tripled checked. I got two separate clastic bags each containing a paper bag. (MJ the manager also confirmed this is what my order consisted of). They both were stapled (like always) and in one bag was two extra sauces, and in the other bag was one seafood boil bag but without my crab legs. Again. Both paper bags were stapled, and my boil bag was double bagged. And each tied like always. So I called the restaurant to say that I didn’t receive part of my order and MJ the manager IMMEDIATELY was combative. I started to record the call on my iPhone and it announces to both lines “this call is being recorded” and he hung up on me. I then called back and asked for a different manager, and he said he was the only person I could speak to. (I recorded that whole call on my Mac) He claims he didn’t make a mistake, he watched it get packed, once it leaves the premises and gets picked up by uber eats it is no longer their responsibility even if they did make a mistake. He said I have to pick it up with Uber. I said I am not getting this uber driver in trouble for something he did not do. YOU messed up my order. The old man that delivered my food EARLY did not get an appetite and take my snow crab leg out of the bag, tie it up and restaple it. MJ also claimed that I “don’t understand how the food industry works”, I worked in the food industry for 8 years and even when I did think I was right I never treated someone like that. But in this case, Hook and Reel did not fulfill my order, which I wasn’t even mad about, then they claimed there is nothing they can do. Tough luck. Thanks for the free money. I’d steer away from Hook & Reel and MJ for sure. Plenty of other...
Read moreI previously went and got a seafood boil and my crab legs were ice cold. Last night I chose to give it another chance. When I arrived at 8:10 the greeter Samson looks at me and says take out and I said no, we are looking to dine in….His response is “Last seating is at 8pm it’s written on the door” he states this with a big smile, like he couldn’t be happier to turn us away. And I respond “I wish you had this posted on the website” and Samson Responds “It’s posted on the door” (Again with a smile) and I say “Well if it was on the website I wouldn’t have driven 30 minutes to get here” Samson: “Well it’s posted on the door and you could have called”…I then walked out
In my mind if a restaurant closes at 9pm i shouldn’t feel the need to call ahead and ask what time the last seating is….Since I go to restaurants often I am aware the kitchen closes 15 mins early. I never heard of Dine in closing an hour early. This is something that really should be posted online so people don’t waste time like I did. I also believe this rule is new because I never seen this posted on the door before. Also in the 5 minutes I sat there looking for another seafood boil place that I could rush over to I saw another 2 parties turned away from the restaurant I’m sure by Samson who gets off on...
Read moreThis was my second time dining at a Hook and Reel location (the other was in Bayonne barely a week ago, so I got the chance to compare and contrast). The restaurant is spacious with a lively atmosphere. There was no wait time here at 6pm on a Friday (dinner prime time). We were seated promptly, and our waiter was friendly and welcoming (Kellie). I deducted one star because my first two picks for draft beer (modelo and blue moon) were both unavailable. Other than this, the wait staff were friendly, the food arrived quickly, it was delicious, getting the bill and payment was prompt and the whole experience was top notch. I'm going to be coming back here quite frequently, to sample all the sumptuous seafood. In terms of recommendations, my personal favorite is the crawfish. I have had their house blend sauce on both occasions, and it has just the right amount of spice (I. E. Too spicy for a western pallette, just right for Asians). My wife is a fan of the snow crab legs and the king crabs. The head off shrimp is a good pick over the head on, as it is easier to eat. And on that note, watch a few YouTube videos about how to eat crawfish if you don't already know; it will open up the world of crawfish boils and a...
