Decided to check this place out with a couple friends 'cause we were feelin' Indian cuisine and it just recently opened, so we were curious. With a rather nondescript name like Curry & Grill we weren't sure exactly what to expect, but we left this place BEYOND satisfied.
Expectations were exceeded even before we ordered anything. While we were perusing the menu, our waiter brought us a plate of papadam, a round crispy flatbread with roughly the texture of a taco shell. We weren't expecting anything in particular; it's just the free bread, after all. But it was surprisingly packed with flavor and spiced to perfection, and absolutely delicious. This introductory experience would repeat itself again and again over the course of the evening.
We ordered the chicken saag, chicken curry, lamb biryani, and a fish pakora starter, and shared everything. We all agreed that every single dish was exceptional. Delicious well-balanced flavors, tender meat, seasoned to perfection. Like many Indian restaurants, you can choose your level of heat, and we decided to go with medium the first time around, just to set a baseline. We're definitely comfortable with kicking it up a couple notches in the future.
The restaurant was bright, clean, and welcoming, the music was light and jazzy; a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally friendly and more than willing to answer our questions and offer suggestions for folks like us who like Indian food but aren't particularly well-versed in all the lingo and the differences between dishes with similar descriptions on the menu.
The prices might seem a little high relative to the incomes and budgets of the general population of the Miami Valley, but the quality is exceptional and the portions are generous. We ordered an appetizer and one main dish for each of us, and even though we are not small guys, we ended up taking half of it home. It's absolutely worth every penny.
We left this place in a happy, satisfied daze that lasted a good couple hours, and we are eager to repeat the experience. We'll definitely be back for future dinners, and for that lunch buffet. As of writing, Curry & Grill has 20 Google reviews (I guess 21 now) with a perfect 5 stars, and it absolutely deserves it. It's not an exaggeration to say that this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Maybe it's because I went in with 0 expectations, and now if I hype it up too much, future patrons will set their expectations too high, but... clearly I'm not the only person that fell in love with this place.
We enjoyed ourselves so much, we thought it was criminal that there were only a couple other customers there on a Friday night. I understand that it's new, so I wrote this review to help increase the buzz. I want Curry & Grill to do well and stick around, because I want to be able to go back, and...
Read moreUpdate 2024: Decided to give this new location another try. Nothing has changed. As you can see from the other reviews, It's still an American version of Indian food and does not cater to the authentic Indian cuisine.
The review above is from 2024 and the one below is from their old location with the same name located next to the halal shop opposite to Dayton Mall written a few years back. If this is not the same restaurant then well and good for them. The owner just replied saying he is going to pursue legal action. Well the above review was just an addendum to the old review. In my new review all I have said is that it is not authentic Indian cusine that Indian people would frequent. If this is not the same restaurant relocated to a new location then ignore the below.
Looking at all the rave reviews I took the plunge and ordered a few breads and 5 curries to go with the bread and rice. Oh by the way I am Indian and so know what the actual Indian food should taste like. This order was a blunder on my part. I failed to see that most reviews were by caucasian who have no idea what actual Indian food tastes like. If you really want the authentic indian taste try prems Chennai delight which would be the closest that you can get to the south indian cooking or Ajantha for north indian taste. Now both these restaurants close to the heart of indian cooking but still don't do justice to real indian food. Like another reviewer had mentioned the quantity of the food is little but that is a price I would gladly pay for excellent food, but this food was not even close to good. It was subpar to what you call as bad to the extent that my 7 year old spot the food out as she could not tolerate the taste. The rice was blant with no salt. Palak paneer had no flavour to it. I have had food from this place last year and it was good but this is a turn for...
Read moreI wanted this place to be good! Hey it's was VakenyimesDay, I'm a Chef I'm South Asian and I'm an 8 on Google The food was very average, buffet was difficult to get through, rice pudding was like sweet milk, the curry's were ok but no lamb. The biriyani was good. The family they hired familt & it was very unorganized. He said he owned 3 other restaurants; but that didn't help this one which has been open a week. You shouldve given each lady a rose goe Valentines. The dollar store balloons didn't cut it. They have a bar!!! Why not a signature drink? Americans like these alcohol & its more money for the restaurants. Where's the Ibdian beers? The Naan they kept running out of & the girls were passing them around and just getting in the way. Put it somewhere noticeable and let the people get it. Maybe some garlic & butter on it? At least 3 families constanlr asked for there silverware . Why not even sit people unless the tables are ready? You can be a family run place but let's not look like it. These people that where Caucasian may have thought the food was good but how often have they eaten Indian food in India? The girls that worked need serious training and some upkeep .I'm sure they will do well. I just wanted at least Aiurh Indian food and some decent rice...
