Key points:
Doesn't brew drip coffee after a certain (unspecified time in the afternoon) so some drinks are not available.
Staff is apparently not trained adequately to know when a filter has allowed coffee grounds to enter the air-pots.
I don't like leaving negative reviews but this one has been sitting with me for quite awhile. I go out of my way to support the more local/smaller businesses and that was a major consideration in going to common grounds. I'm frequently in the area and enjoy a good cup of coffee on my drive to South West Portland.
First, I will say the staff has always been pleasant, which is the expectation and even sometimes cheerfully friendly which is always a bonus to me. Now because of my schedule, I usually find myself stopping in the mid-afternoon(3pmish) for a cup of coffee. I'm partial to drip coffee with a shot or two of expresso to which the mindbender seemed right to me. Imagine my surprise when I went to order it and I was told "Sorry we are out of drip coffee" on my first visit. Disappointed and a bit taken aback I just ordered a double expresso and went about my afternoon.
A few weeks later I stopped about the same time, 3pmish and tried to order the double mind bender and was once again told they were out of drip coffee. Not as surprised as the first time I asked why and was told that they stop making drip coffee after a certain time.
You are a coffee shop. Stopping making coffee before you close doesn't make sense to me, but okay, now armed with this information, I still want to support the smaller business so again I ordered a double expresso and went along my business.
A week later I found myself taking a trip up to Seattle and stopped in at 10am and hesitantly ordered a double mind bender. Gratefully, there was no issue as apparently 10am is early enough to still be brewing drip coffee and off on my trip I went. As I got to the bottom of my coffee, I went to take a swallow and nearly spat out the sludgy mess of coffee grounds that was unexpectedly waiting for me in the bottom of my cup.
This was a very unpleasant experience to say the least, and the third strike. Train your staff to recognize when a filter has failed to contain the coffee after a brew. I've experienced this myself personally and know what to look for when I empty the used filter.
I will not be going back and instead I'd rather drive down the 5 and exit the freeway to find another small coffee shop to give my business to and then get back on the freeway rather than keep on being...
Read morekinda confusing, the first day I came, it was awesome! the drink was amazing, all the staff was kind and helpful and were really polite when I stayed until closing, I couldn't wait to come back, I thought I had found the perfect study coffee shop by house, then the second day I came back, there were different people working and it was TOTALLY different atmosphere! The girl I ordered coffee was not helpful when she told me they were out of what I wanted, she seemed totally unwilling to answer questions and seemed irritated with me for asking for recommendations. She was rude to other customers as well, just poor customer service. When I hated the drink I got (and I am not a picky eater at all) but I felt like I couldn't ask them about it because ordering the drink in the first place seemed like such an inconvenience to the barista...total waste of $4+
The music was some random rap music that was playing really loudly (dropping N-words and "G*d Damns" and F-words left and right.) It was really abrasive and when I politely asked them to turn it down a little...they did, but I heard them talking about me later behind the counter and how I unreasonably asked to turn it down. Overall, it was just a really unwelcome environment the second time I went. I want to give this place a better review, because I really enjoyed my first experience, but the inconsistency makes me not want to risk wasting my time and money...
Read moreNot what they used to be. Still tasty coffee, love their whip cream, but I wont be back again. Waaaaaaaaay long drive through waits whenever I go now. 25minutes on my last visit. Used to love these guys more than Dutch Brothers when I lived in Vancouver. I havent been in 4 months though, and on my last trip I was shocked at the price of the same drink that I had been having since 08'. It was 3$ more than before. My usual enorme black forest mocha with 2 extra shots has now become $9.50! WTF homies?! That's the base price of $5-ish and over $1.50 per shot! Lololol AND there was no chocolate covered cherry, no dark cherry flavor, tasted just like a dark chocolate mocha. Worth $9.50? No. Worth waiting 25 minutes, no. I didn't tip because I was already waiting so long, which irritated the very vibrant and peppy barista. Sorry guys, you lose me once you're more expensive...
