Very discriminatory bar that does not accommodate visually impaired individuals!!! A group of friends and I hopped to Cantina Bambina while visiting the Wharf for the Mardi Gras parade. We ordered one round of drinks, some in our party had water to start. My twin sister and friend, who are visually impaired and do not have drivers licenses for this reason, were attempting to find the bathroom. The bathroom was downstairs and outside near an ice skating rink. A short white-male with scruff and glasses said for this reason they could not return as they did not feel comfortable serving us anymore. The owner sought me out, who was upstairs to ask me to leave. I informed him that they are visually impaired, myself included, just having had surgery 4 weeks prior as well, and this was just wrong. It was dark out, no signage leading to the restroom, no braille was present either. This gentleman found the entire situation funny, and laughed right in our faces. Even despite the situation, I would not support this business and spend my money at a place that is going to provoke disabled discrimination. I have read other reviews that claim Catina Bambina have also been discriminatory in other ways, and 110% believe it after my experience. Just sickening to treat your patrons this way and with...
Read more(Edit 2) Returned the next night at owners request to a rope across the entrance an hour prior to close. Went up the back steps that said “exit only” and was told that it was last call even though they didn’t close for an hour. It was pretty dead, only 5 or 6 people there, and the bartender Hannah explained that sometimes they will close early based on volume; understandable, but perhaps add something to this effect either physically on premise? A simple sign at the bottom of the stairs that says closed would do. Overall a decent experience, Warmers kept me toasty at the bar even tho it was in the upper 40s low 50s outside. Hannah the bartender was very friendly. While eventually my experience was positive, it definitely took some work to get there. When I return to DC over the summer I will visit again, as the location is fantastic.
(Edit) Out of respect for the fact that the owner responded I’ve updated from 1 star to 2 and emailed him back.
Doorman was a complete jerk, refused entry because I had a 16oz bottle of water. They do not sell or charge for water, I told him we were coming in for the bar but it made no difference. Offered to put the water bottle in a purse and not take it out while we were in there but that was also denied because it was an “outside beverage”. How...
Read moreI will never come to this restaurant again!! I’m very disappointed at how my party was discrimated against, especially during this time. Myself and 3 other African American wanted to dine at this restaurant on the rooftop, and was directed to a very small table that sat only 2. When I asked if another table could be added to ours to add extra room, I was advised no. Where the issue lies is .. there where 2 other parties of 4 Caucasian each that had an extra table added to give extra room. The manager was very rude and seemed to not want to work with us even though clearly the other 2 parties of 4 where accommodated. There was also another empty small table next to us, that we asked to add to ours .. the manager then followed with no .. that table is about to be seated with a walk in .. but we where there first!! I’m very disappointed because I’ve heard good things about this place .. but my experience will not go unheard !! Discrimating and treating us unfairly was uncalled for and because of that, I will use my platform to discredit this company and everything about it. Please choose another restaurant, because I would hate for this to happen to...
