Creative Grounds DC — Restaurant in Washington

Just around the corner from Jam Doung Style Jamaican food spot is an art and coffee lover's dream that is Creative Grounds DC. This shop is nestled among the historical row houses that make this area of DC quaint and beautiful. Accessibility is accommodating with a ramp just beyond the spacious patio.

Inside, plants stand and hang in the bay window where you can drink coffee and draw snuggled on a velvet green couch. New and used books stand in the other bay window while local artists' works hang on the gallery-like walls all around.

Inspiration lay on the beautiful long and wide wooden table in the form of thick art books and viney plants enticing you to stay a while and absorb culture and color. While Bob Marley sang about three little birds, I happily pulled out my small sketchbook drawing and sipped on a special lavender and honey with lemon drink, at peace.

I was in the area so tried this (new-to-me) cafe. I did what most baristas hate and asked the barista what her favourite hot and cold drinks are. The results were delicious.

Hot turmeric ginger latte had a great balance with a slightly stronger kick of ginger near the end. Like all tumeric lattes, it had sediment at the end, so I skipped the last sip. I got regular milk, but this probably would have been amazing with oat milk.

Iced honey lavender latte. I was worried it was looking too milk heavy, but the barista used great ratios of milk and ice to compliment the syrups and espresso. It is sweet (with Barista noted when recommending). Would absolutely order again.

Apple Pasty. Delicious. Definitely nest with a fork and knife. On the sweeter side, likely because I'm eating it following my honey lavender latte. Would be amazing...

I'm trying not to cry as I write this review- but it's Black owned, Woman owned!!! And then, when you walk in, the atmosphere holds a strong, refreshing feeling with the decor. The owner supports local artists with showcasing beautiful and unique art pieces on the wall. My absolute favorite part was seeing that there was a book/reading area, and there were books that you can actually read!

I ordered a specialty latte( Snickerdoodle Latte & Blueberry muffin) sooooo delicious 😋. Snickerdoodle latte is worth ALL the calories, lol! You want to work, quality time w your partner, or just simply enjoy a cup of coffee - Creative Grounds lives up to its name.
