i've had much better for much cheaper but i suppose nothing is all that cheap in dc.
the online order is very efficient and arrived very promptly with an extremely friendly carrier. you might want to ask for utensils. kind of hard to eat soup and rice with your hands.
the food tastes like they use fresh, clean ingredients however i must be spoiled because i was somewhat disappointed by the portion sizes (wanton soup with 2 mediocre wantons in it....nothing special) if you like vegetable spring rolls, those are good here. if you prefer plain fried rice, that's what you get with a combo. bean curd is alright, i've had much worse. the photo online of their tempura shrimp is a total joke. it is basically four 2" nuggets of sweet and sour shrimp on a bed of soggy cellophane noodles. if that's considered tempura, i'm afraid to know what their sweet and sour shrimp is. i guess there could be more agonizing deaths to $6. out of my wallet but if i wanted bait, i would have ordered bait. the sauce that came with the shrimp was some sort of thin, citrus zest sauce that assaulted my palette to the point of spitting. not a fan of that sauce but again a matter of taste. giving three stars rather than 2 because a. the delivery man was wonderful and b. the spring rolls were...
Read moreHave to admit that as neighbors, we've overlooked this tiny restaurant, which offers takeout but has no place to sit indoors -- just a few seats on the wide sidewalk outside. (Truth be told, we kind of assumed it mainly served tourists.) But all we get these days is takeout and this evening we were craving Chinese food -- the sort we could find easily in Southern California, not the Asian-fusion dishes you get so often in DC (which to us are more like Thai and Vietnamese.)
After reading some positive reviews and finding out that it was indeed open (despite the fact that Woodley Park's two big hotels have been closed for months), we decided to give Eddie's Cafe a try. We're SO glad we did and are just sorry it took us so long! Each dish was prepared in a different style, with different sauces and flavors; the portions were large; and it tasted really good. (Kung Pao Chicken, Eggplant with Ginger & Basil Sauce, and Pan Fried String Beans.) And we've got soup saved for tomorrow to enjoy with the leftovers.
This is actually the best Chinese food we've found in this neighborhood, and we plan to become regulars. Don't ignore what seem to be...
Read moreThe first time of ordering here and receiving my food no problem as I paid with cash. The second time was a complete disaster as I tried to use my card and place my order over the phone for 2 lunch combos of lomein only the lady that was trying to use my card tried to charge my card $30 and could not. I got a call saying that oh I am sorry I type the # wrong. The second time I gave her the card # it went thru for $18.96 than she tried to get me for a third time but this time I had locked my card to where I realized that she was trying to scam me.
In their own menu from 11-3 7x a week a lunch is 10.50 each. 2 orders for lo mein combo for lunch plus tip should have been no more than 25 which I knew I had enough to cover. When I finally called my bank and asked them how much the third transaction that got declined was for the bank told me $11 and change. In the end this place is not...
