I used to live in DC and travel back several times a year to visit friends and family in the DMV. As a donut enthusiast, I am always visiting donut shops whenever I am here and today was my first opportunity to try Handcraft Doughnuts. I chose 4 doughnuts: matcha blackberry, blueberry yuzu, rosewater, and strawberry chai. These are hands down the best donuts that I have EVER had, anywhere. The jam inside the matcha blackberry and strawberry chai are so phenomenal and fresh that I wish they also sold jars of the homemade jam that they fill their donuts with. I am not exaggerating when I say eating that matcha blackberry donut was a transcendent experience and I will be dreaming of these doughnuts until my next trip down. You can tell the donuts are iced and filled with real, high quality ingredients. I cannot recommend that you visit and try these for yourself enough, I promise you won't regret it. While I was there I also purchased a book at the Solid State bookstore and enjoyed the peaceful environment of the shop while I had my...

Going to be harsh because they charge 6 dollars a donut.

At almost 6 dollars i expect the texture of the donut to be top tier and topings to be unique flavorful and aesthetic.

These donuts definititely get a 9-10/10 for their look, however they were a flat out disapointment in taste.

At this price point execution on the dough and bread should be top teir. Should be flakey, airy, exceptional. These tasted like someone just shaped some pilsberrydoughboy dough in an artistic shape and covered it with flavorless bland but visually striking topings.

All Glitter, 0 substance. Eagerly bought half dozen for 32 dollars expecting to be wowed only to realize they were essentially all the same exact disapointing donut in a generic but brightly colored differentiated topping.

Ate topings of 2 donuts and threw the rest in the garbage. Wish i only bought one and tested before buying...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Handcraft Donuts, and I can't say enough good things about my experience! The location is just perfect—super convenient and easy to find. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with friendly smiles and great service. Ordering was a breeze!

I tried the cookies and cream and the buttermilk glazed, and they were absolutely unbelievable. Both were fluffy and light, striking that perfect balance of sweetness that left me wanting more. I honestly couldn't believe how delicious they were!

I can’t wait to fly back to DC and get more. If only they would start delivering to California soon lol! Handcraft Donuts is truly a gem, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful treat. You won’t be...

The doughnuts are large, fresh, fluffy, light, and delicious! Because of that, they are worth the price, you can taste that they are not commercially mass produced. The different flavors strike a nice balance of unique and interesting without being over the top. As we tend to stick to more traditional flavors, I thought we’d prefer those (like buttermilk glazed & chocolate ganache) but so glad we were adventurous and tried the more creative flavors because we loved those too (yuzu, cookies & cream, maple brown butter)! The young couple who runs are from DC and adorable, the staff are super friendly and kind making recommendations to suit your taste preferences. Warning, they tend to sell out by evening so get there early enough to have your choice of favorites!

So bummed to have to write this. At $5 a donut, these are subpar and not fresh at all. At noon, they had the same quality as a few day old grocery store donut. The presentation is not cute. They are very small and lacking in flavor. Spent $50 to take these as a gift. They were squished together, chocolate smeared all over box when it was place in. Because of this, the rest were placed in another small box, then a paper bag. So, I gifted a mess inside of several containers. Instead of a unique fresh gift, it was just a giant unpleasant mess. Wanted to just walk away but already paid. The box was taped together with painters tape, they should invest in boxes that close properly. Please don't waste your calories and money here

I’ve now been to the Handcraft Doughnuts twice. The first time I went they were completely sold out but I got the opportunity to meet the master baker behind it (Ike). When I found myself around Union market again I had to stop by. I loved their options. I ended up getting 3 doughnuts (Rosewater Buttercream, Brown Butter Maple, and Yuzu). I was surprised of how good Yuzu was. You can taste the quality of the doughnut in the texture. Personally whenever I get a doughnut from Dunkin Donut my stomach hurts afterwards. These doughnut tastes way better than most typical doughnuts. Definitely worse every bit. Ike is awesome as well. Very personable and a great host.
