Mezcal Cantina almost earned 5 stars from me if it weren't for a few mishaps that took place during my visit. There's a lot to love about this spot! I really enjoyed the food and will definitely be back to try more items on of the menu. However, a few service mishaps kept it from being a wonderful experience. Here's my breakdown of my experience:
Environment It's a lovely space with lots of character. They have both outside and indoor dining space plus a full bar and plenty of seating. My only critique: the chairs in the dining area were quite small and really uncomfortable. Other than that, the ambiance was great and felt welcoming.
Service The service had room for improvement and is the main reason i deducted a point. A miscommunication around the Taquitos order left us disappointed. The menu described it as "2 chicken, 2 shredded beef," so we assumed we were receiving 4 taquitos. However we only got two and when we asked for clarification, they argued bit that it was clear and then admitted that it was a typo but didn't offer any resolution aside from a quick apology - no discounts or additional taquitos, nothing. This response was underwhelming and put a damper on our experience. I included a picture in my review so future diners can know what to expect. Aside from this, the service was fine, but we were hoping for a little more attention to customer satisfaction.
Food and Drinks Now the food was amazing! I had the chicken quesadillas and they were filling and delicious. I will definitely come back just for them and will definitely try other items on the menu. We overall enjoyed the food and are excited to see what else they have to offer.
The drinks were fine and i would love to explore more of the cocktail menu to find a standout favorite.
Overall Mezcal Cantina offers good vibes and really delicious food. With some improvements to the service and menu clarity, they could easily earn a full five stars from me! I'm excited to return and try more of what they...
Read moreVisiting from out of town and really had high hopes after the positive reviews. Sadly it was severely disappointing. They stuck us in a corner despite the restaurant being empty. We were ignored until I got up and asked if we had a waitress. The young lady seemed lacking in english, at first. But then spoke to us in English for most of the evening. Table side guacamole was the only thing that was good. Asked for medium rare steak with fajitas, they usually sizzle and cook more as they sit. The manager despite being very friendly over the phone came over and gave me some ridiculous information about not being able to cook the meat medium rare because it wouldn’t cook thru and heat up enough (?). I was totally confused. I told him I didn’t want tough, dry meat. He reassured that despite it being cook well done it would be good. Ok.. so I am pretty sure the meat was precooked and just reheated. It came out dry, overcooked, tough with burnt onions and peppers. The way I predicted! Cold black beans, ( I asked for charro beans), that appeared to be sitting in a pot all day, and cold rice. The pitcher of standard margaritas tasted like cheap mix without alcohol. My friends had two other dishes that they said was fair. All in all a very disappointing experience for over $200… I still gave 20% tip to my server, she was not to blame for the lack of cooking skills at this establishment. They...
Read moreI walked in from street, no one acknowledged me, no sign saying wait to be seated. Finally went to bar and asked if I just start myself and the manager, I believe, was incredulous that I'd ask such a thing. That was done, they were really busy, and it's a small place. No worries. Then, my server finally comes over and I tell her twice that I want tableside guacamole, actually showed her the picture, and I never got it, she sent over a tiny side order. Ordered the chicken taquitos and they had some weird pink cheese inside. Very fresh, just not awesome. Also got the crunchy taco trio - steak. Super good flavor, but the steak image was in big chunks, so half the filling came out in just a couple of bites. Server never once came to check on me, though manager did drop in at the end to see if I was OK. I still tipped 18%, which I shouldn't have, but it's quite a bit lower than I normally tip. I almost stepped inside a Chinese restaurant that was nearby,...
