I was blatantly discriminated against at this restaurant because of the color of my skin. My wife and I are a black couple who ordered sushi here during lunch hour one day. The place was mostly empty when we entered except for one lady who had arrived before we got there. As we were taking our seats, another gentleman entered and took a seat. We were greeted by the waitress and ordered one spicy salmon roll and one spicy tuna roll. We regularly order sushi, so we are familiar with how long it usually takes for an order like this to come out. That being said, the lady was soon served her food which gave us no alarm. About twenty minutes later, the gentleman was served his food. Both of their orders were more elaborate than two sushi rolls. We hadn’t received any update on our order, so I asked the waitress about how much longer it would take. She said it was coming out soon. Around when the gentleman was served his food, two other patrons had sat down. Another twenty minutes pass, and these two patrons are now eating their respective orders. By this point, I had asked the waitress a couple more times on the status of the sushi rolls and she relayed the same message: it was coming out soon. I’ve ordered sushi dozens of times at restaurants and not once has an order with two sushi rolls taken close to an hour to prepare - especially during business lunch hours when other customers were receiving more labor intensive selections at a much quicker pace. Needless to say, we were the only black patrons there and got the point. What confirmed my suspicion of racial discrimination is that when we told the manager that we couldn’t stay longer because the request was taking too long and we had to get back to work, she offered no apology or explanation. She didn’t even address me. She simply shouted in another language toward the back and walked off. So we walked out and will never...
Read moreSavory, authentic, and enjoyable!! The restaurant is located conveniently near the Capital One arena and not right in the heart of Chinatown so you can avoid the crowds and find close parking within walking distance. The interior is quaint and cozy and I’m so thankful I went for an early dinner bc as I was leaving, they had a 20min wait.
I took myself out on a date and I started with the spicy tuna roll. When I dine, I prefer cold/room temp food prior to hot to not confuse my gi tract. The spicy tuna roll was the BEST spicy tuna roll I’ve had thus far!! The tuna was fresh and the veggies complimented the tuna perfectly. The added fish roe to the roll was delicious and really balanced out the flavor.
Next, I enjoyed the Kobe Beef Potstickers. They had a ginger soy sauce dip that was delectable but the potstickers are palatable without the sauce. The potstickers were a little greasier than I prefer but it didn’t hinder the flavor profile of the seasoned Kobe beef tucked into the dumpling.
For my main course, I was delighted with a build your own noodle bowl and I can confidently say that the coconut lemongrass base was highly authentic!! I ordered it it with glass noodles, chicken, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and bok choy. The glass noodles were boiled perfectly, the bamboo shoots really added tartness to the soup and balanced out the coconut, the bok choy was minced and I was very pleased with that bc it made eating the boy choy pleasant and not messy or chewy.
Overall, I would highly recommend Absolute Noodles and Sushi if you have the chance to visit the amazing...
Read moreI got two Maki rolls: spicy tuna and yellowtail. I also got 4 nigiris: yellowtail belly, al Toro(2) and tuna belly.
The sushi was not fresh and overall terrible. The Maki rolls were insanely salty even without dipping any soy sauce. I've had plenty of sushi and never had I ever had chili sauce mixed into my sushi. It was so unbearably salty that I had to keep drinking water after each piece. The nigiri rolls were not fresh at all. There was a really pungent frozen fishy taste that would make me want to throw up each time. The al Toro was worse. It was so difficult to even chew and swallow the fish that I end up spitting it back out. I do not recommend getting sushi here and I should have known when the entire place was only white customers. This is not the place to go. I cannot speak to their ramen dishes since I have not tried it but I would not recommend for sushi. The wait for my sushi rolls was also incredibly long for no reason. Everyone around me got their food even the two tables and 2 individuals who came in after me got their food quickly.
I didn't give one star because the wait staff were friendly and nice. The place was clean and...
