Whether you enter the station from the National Portrait Gallery or the Capitol One Arena you will find yourself immersed in a beautiful intersection of form and function.
Elongated escalators quickly route you into an underground tube wrapped in waffle-like concrete cocoon.
If you have the proper credentials, the gates will will allow you to immediately pass onto the lower levels, but do not worry if you do not, electronic sentries are standing by to help you gain access.
At the lower level you will stand upon miles of hexagonal tiles tinted in various shade of burnt orange much like the many legends who have travelled Metro before you. Hundreds of floor lights line the tracks, to amplify the danger of the rails and celebrate the arrival of each train with a luminous dance of welcoming.
With the arrival of each train the ceiling darkens to show respect to the magnificent Kawasaki machine that lies below.
Each train welcomes you with open doors, but do not mistake it's kindness for casualness. When the time comes for onward motion the doors will clamp upon anything or anyone that stands in its way.
As each train leaves so does the excitement and anticipation that came with it's arrival. The gods signify thier approval with a strong gust of wind that wooshes across the platform, and the ceiling illuminates in a sign of respect to...
Read moreDon't bet on catching the last trains. I work as a bartender and I get out of work late. It's happened twice where I would run to catch the last train with only 7 minutes left until it's arrival/departure and the gates to the entrance are closed on both H and F St sides AND the elevator on 7 St is inoperable. TWICE. I've used Metro for as long as I've been here which is about 7 years and I've caught last trains with no problem from many stations. My problem with this particular station is that these MFs know there are workers in the area that need to catch that last train and can't afford $40-$50 for a one-way Uber/Lyft on a Friday or Saturday night. It reflects laziness, incompetence, and a blatant disregard of the community this station serves on...
Read moreHad trouble exiting the terminal with my partner. We’re both new to D.C. We accidentally used the wrong card to exit and only after our visible confusion and turmoil, the undercover officer stops us. We were spoken over, talked down to, and interrogated with toxic virility and downright disrespect. It was at 3:24 pm. The cop was wearing a green zip down sweater and had dark brown hair. We tried many times to calmly address our mistake but to no avail. Wish I could say anything but what I have to say: the undercover officer here is useless and rude. Don’t ask for help, he’ll just stop you when you’re visibly trying to find a...
