Morris American Bar — Restaurant in Washington

Perhaps the most well-crafted cocktails in the DC market right now. The central location of Morris makes it a FANTASTIC spot for a before or after dinner drink(s). Not to mention the décor is stunning and very unlike your average DC cocktail bar.

Beautiful design would be nothing without a competent and caring wait staff. I’m pleased to report that the staff are clearly industry veterans and care deeply about your experience. Here is what I love most about the service:

1. If you don’t like a drink (very rare, but I’ve seen it happen) your server will immediately supply you with a complimentary replacement. That feedback is taken very seriously and is incorporated into your future selections and the menu.

2. The servers are able to provide thoughtful and studied advice to cocktail novices who don’t necessarily know what they like.

3. Last, but NOT LEAST, everyone is just so nice!! I grade this bar an A if you end up having to wait for a date or appointment. The staff is always ready to strike up conversation with their patrons.

Now for the cherry on top: The drinks at Morris are a shockingly modest $12 a pop!! Penny pinchers...

I have enjoyed my visits to Morris every time I've been there, until last nigh. It had been a couple of weeks since a was there last. I ordered a cocktail which was beautifully presented but it did not taste as good as they usually do - easy to fix had the bartender asked me whether I liked it or not. The bar was not busy, the stuff members seem to be having a great time taking shots after shots while I kept pushing the drink away from me trying to get some attention from the bar but no one seemed to care. They kept taking shots while a waited for someone to check on us -my friend and I- but no one did. In the end, it was very frustrating so I put down my c/card next to the drink I could not drink. Someone came to process the payment and chose to ignore the fact that I had not drunk the cocktail. I was going to tell them but they were too busy with their little party they're having. I hope that this is the first and last time it happens. Other times I've been there, Noel and David have been the best. They are very attentive and professional but the new foxs aren't. Morris is without a doubt an absolute gem of a cocktail bar and my personal favorite. The bartenders are not only inventive but also thoroughly well-versed in classics and contemporary drinks. You can tell the whole team is proud of their bar, and it really shows. The seasonal menu is their own impressive creation, but make no mistake, they gladly take requests and offer new suggestions.

Inside is a time capsule of a classic bar. The colors, décor, lighting, music – it is the perfect place for relaxing drinks. Outside is shaded and casual, exactly what you want for a group of friends.

Other bars even the often lauded “Bests in DC” have fallen short of what Morris is consistently doing here in terms of quality, knowledge, skill, and service. You get way more than what you pay for here. As amazing as it all is, it is not at all stuffy. Everybody is friendly, easygoing, and enjoys what they are doing.

This review is long overdue and could not be more well deserved. Morris often surprises, never disappoints, and after all their extra hard work during the pandemic, I cannot wait to sit at the actual bar again. Until...
