MUST READ!!!Review of Nando’s at 4231 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016
On May 27th, I visited Nando’s on Wisconsin Ave NW around 6:15/6:25 PM for what I hoped would be a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, my visit turned out to be uncomfortable and disheartening.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a young man at the entrance. I requested to sit outdoors and he told me I could sit anywhere. After waiting for 20 minutes without any service, I went back inside to figure out how to order, as it was my first time at Nando’s. I asked the same young man whether I should scan a code to order or if there would be a waitress. He informed me that he would take my order.
While waiting, I observed a group of young men and other customers arriving after me. I got my drink from the counter and noticed a woman greeting the new customers, seating them, and taking their orders promptly. I returned to my seat outside. During this time, the young man took my chair, forcing me to switch tables. The manager, who I initially thought was a waitress, walked past my table several times without acknowledging my presence or offering assistance.
It became increasingly uncomfortable as I watched this manager serve food and drinks to other customers, all of whom were Caucasian, while I, the only Black customer, was completely ignored. After 30 minutes of waiting without receiving any food or further interaction, I decided to go back inside and request a refund. The manager, Janelle, finally approached but did not inquire about the issue or offer any apology. Her sole concern was figuring out the refund process and asking how I had paid. I explained that I had used Apple Pay.
This experience was hurtful and uncomfortable. The blatant disregard for my presence and service needs felt racially motivated. Watching a Black (foreign) woman serve everyone else and ignore me made me feel unwelcome and undervalued as a customer. Regardless of the intent, the environment at Nando’s made me feel like an outsider to the point where I felt compelled to leave without dining.
Everyone who visits an establishment deserves to be treated equally, and my experience at Nando’s was far from that. It was a disappointing encounter that left me feeling...
Read moreFinally, I had an opportunity to stop by and try home area Peri- Peri Tenleytown as I've heard so much about this place. My lady and I went during the late afternoon last week. The weather was nice, so we sat outside BIG MISTAKE. Talk about zero service, Sheesh!! Because they are complete self-service, which is ridiculous in other words either you scan your QR code or you go up to the counter and use their kiosk machine they completely abandoned the human Service element unclear why they have a tip suggestion while paying ? Back to my story our food arrived but there were no extra plates to use. There was no glass or water offered, no silverware or side plates offered. There was nothing so I asked the waitress to help. She finally retuned with two empty water glasses which is hilarious because it took a while I decided to go in and gather everything that was missing which is when she arrive of glass no ice no water no nothing, didn’t wanna ask her anything else because she seemed annoyed so I went inside and gathered silverware plates straws. You know the basic things that restaurant with waiters would provide. To top it off beware of the coleslaw it’s seems it may have been sitting outside. Note I did reach out to there leadership executive team but crickets clearly the sentiments have echoed before. The chicken was good but I will have to say for future sake it’s a big, No thanks! Last I checked service is what make dining a...
Read moreThis was my worst experience in many months at any restaurant. The employee working the register at this location on Monday Feb 8th, 2021 around 3pm needs to be terminated or reassigned to a new position. Very rude and disrespectful. This location has a shield barrier at the register due to covid precautions which is very understandable. When I went to order my food this employee rudely told me to step away from the register, and move back to some sticker on the floor. I backed away in disbelief and gave him my order trying not to yell too loudly so he could hear. Then I politely asked if I could step forward to pay for my order since I had to input my card into the machine. He looked at me as if he expected me to throw my credit card over the barrier at him. It wasn't until he backed away a few feet from the register and barrier that I stepped forward to pay for my order. Why is an employee treating customers like this who don't have Covid? The worst part is that this same guy who treated me as if I did then proceeded to cook my order, without a mask on, talk over my food whole time with other employees with no mask on, and give it to me like I was even...
