Just had lunch at New Dynasty Restaurant in D.C. last year (just remember to upload my documentation.lol) and honestly, it felt like a hidden gem—especially if you’re craving Asian flavors that hit close to home. As an Indonesian, I’m pretty picky with taste, but this place delivered!

One big plus: they provide halal menu options! That’s not always easy to find, so it really made the experience better.

I ordered their fried rice and general tso’s chicken and some vegetable dumplings, and both came out fresh and flavorful. The chicken had that crispy-outside, juicy-inside texture, and the sauce was rich without being overly sweet. It reminded me a bit of how we like our ayam saus mentega in Indonesia—manis, gurih, and satisfying! 😋

The portion sizes were generous, definitely enough to share with my friend or save for later. Plus, they’re fast—good if you’re on a schedule or just too hungry to wait. The place is simple and clean, nothing fancy, but the service was friendly and warm.

One small note: the flavors lean more American-Chinese, so it’s not super-authentic Chinese cuisine, but still delicious if you’re just looking for something tasty, halal-friendly, and comforting. I didn’t see sambal, though—so next time I might bring my own! 😆

Overall: worth a visit, especially if you’re in the Dupont Circle area and craving good Asian food that feels a little like home—and halal too!

*sorry, I forgot to capture my food. Too hungry...

We came here all the way from Shaw because of a Nift card, and I have to say I'd be happy to return if I were in the neighborhood. The elderly gentleman who was running the cashier was kind and friendly. The entire place is unassuming and simple but still has a cozy vibe because there are so many different types of people who seem to come by, either to dine in or get takeout. We ordered the cold sesame noodles which were very flavorful, the sesame tofu which was perfectly crispy, and the eggplant in garlic which was good and will probably be even better tomorrow as leftovers. Everything is served in to-go containers which is actually kind of nice because the portion sizes are massive and you might not be able to finish it all. I'm glad they seem to be doing well and would definitely recommend this spot if...

New Dynasty is your stereotypical American-Chinese takeout. They serve all the classics like general tso, kung pao, and orange chicken. What seems to be a small, local business, New Dynasty is a better option than your neighborhood Panda Express or other chain. It’s open late and will not disappoint. They have indoor seating too. Only complaint is that they lack authentic Chinese food. I ordered their Sichuan Chicken and it was nothing close to the actual dish. It was glazed in an extremely sweet and gooey sauce, without any spice and mala. The dish was tasty but not what I expected. If the owner responds, I’d appreciate your recommendation for dishes that you offer with more authentic recipes! I’ll make sure to come back...

If you like Chinese takeout, Dupont Circle's new Dynasty does a good job. When my family of three did a staycation at a nearby hotel, we ordered pick up via Uber Eats and it was ready within 15 minutes of ordering on a Friday evening. To feed the three of us, we ordered wonton soup, Mongolian Beef, General Tsao's Chicken and Orange Chicken. The three main dishes came with steamed rice. Each was tasty, but the winner was the General Tsao's Chicken. The Mongolian Beef was good, but it was mainly onions with little beef. Service was friendly and prices decent for an expensive city like Washington, D.C.
