My friend and I visited this place September 2024 on a trip to DC. He heard about this place, so we decided to try it. There was a line upon entering to order, so I assume it's popular, especially during breakfast time. We both ordered something from the bakery; I included a picture of what I ordered; I think it was something berry flavored. I'd have to check the menu again. While in line, we looked at the menu and at the counter ordered our food, beverages, and bakery items. My friend ordered kale and apple juice. I originally wanted the apple berry tea, but I was told they only served it hot, and I wanted something cold, so I chose to experiment and order the blood orange hibiscus tea. The way it works is you order at the counter, they give you a number so they can deliver the food and beverages to your seats. I ordered the corn and spinach Shakshuka (North African soup looking plate in the pictures), but not the traditional one; I think the one I ate is seasonal because on the regular menu I don't find it. It was DELICIOUS! It did NOT disappoint. I loved that plate, definitely one of the highlights of the trip in terms of food. My friend ordered smoked salmon sandwich, which he was pleased with. My muffin tasted ok; it was hard, and I wasn't impressed. The only complaint I have of this place is similar to other in previous reviews: that they took an eternity to bring us our beverages. We asked several times, and it seems they forgot. We received out drinks by the time we were ready to leave. Sadly, I disliked the flavor of the tea; mayhe they prepared it quickly and forgot to deliver it, hence it having a strange flavor. As for the green juice, we learned it was one from a bottle, as in ready to go as opposed to freshly made, and when we saw where they grabbed it from, a cooler within reach, he thought, if I knew that I would've grabbed it myself. The thought that it was already made made no sense that they took ridiculously long to bring the drinks. In conclusion, I would absolutely return for the food, but next time, maybe I'll just order water or something that I can grab myself instead of having to ask several times...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience at Tatte Bakery and Cafe. I placed an order for food along with a tea and an au latte. The food was delivered to our table, and the associate inquired about our drinks. We confirmed the order, and he left a number at our table, suggesting he'd bring the drinks shortly. However, we continued to wait and eventually had to inquire about our drinks. Only one drink was brought out initially, and to make matters worse, they mistakenly delivered a hot coffee instead of the au latte I had ordered.
When I pointed out the error, it seemed like they were insinuating that I was trying to manipulate the order. The manager eventually made the correction and adjusted the charge to reflect the au latte I had initially requested. I asked why the drinks had taken so long in the first place, and the manager's response was rather dismissive, stating that the tea and coffee should have been given to me at the time of purchase, which they were not. It was my first visit, and I had not been informed of this process, but the manager simply brushed it off with a condescending remark, saying, "It's a learning experience."
What added to the frustration was that other customers sitting nearby received their drinks promptly with their meals, and their hot drinks were served in regular cups, whereas we received ours in to-go cups. Additionally, when I approached the coffee counter to inquire about my au latte, the associate there seemed uncertain and asked, "Is that yours?"
Overall, it was a disappointing visit, marred by poor communication, mistakes in the order, and a lackluster response from...

My recent visit to Tatte Bakery in DC left me with mixed feelings, though the highs were certainly high! If you're heading to Tatte, do yourself a favor and dive headfirst into their pastry selection, especially anything pistachio.
The pistachio latte was, in a word, divine. Rich, perfectly balanced, and with a lovely hint of pistachio, it was the ideal start to the meal. Equally impressive was the pistachio croissant. Flaky, buttery, and generously filled with a delectable pistachio paste, it was a true standout and a pastry I'd happily go back for again and again. You can truly taste the quality and craftsmanship in these items – they're worth every penny.
However, when it came to the prepared brunch items, they unfortunately fell short. We tried a bagel with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, and another egg dish with roasted tomatoes and greens. While not bad, they were quite forgettable and lacked the vibrancy and flavor that makes a brunch item truly special. The bagel was a bit dense, and the eggs were just... eggs. Compared to the exceptional pastries, these savory dishes felt like an afterthought.
In summary, Tatte Bakery is a charming spot with a lovely ambiance, perfect for a coffee and pastry indulgence. The pistachio latte and pistachio croissant are absolute must-tries and easily earn a five-star rating. However, if you're looking for a memorable savory brunch experience, you might be better off exploring other options in DC. Stick to the sweet treats here, and you won't be...
