Back when I lived on C Street Capitol Hill, just by Stanton Park, this was an easy walk — and totally worth it. The vibe is intimate yet chic: warm lighting, sleek interiors, and that perfect balance of sophisticated but never stiff. Ideal for unwinding after work or catching up with friends over a good pour. The wine list? Immaculate. From beloved classics to bottles you won’t stumble across anywhere else, everything is curated with taste. Pair it with their small plates, and suddenly you’re not just sipping wine — you’re having a whole experience. Service ties it all together: friendly, sharp, and refreshingly unpretentious. Eastern Wine Bar is that Capitol Hill gem where great wine, good food, and effortless vibes meet. ✨🍇

Nothing but good things to say about this place. Service was excellent, food was excellent and wine was excellent. Ashley, our server was amazing. I was not sure what wine I wanted to order and she brought me several samples to help me decide. At the time we arrived there were no seats inside, and it was very cold. As soon as a table opened up indoor she quickly let us know and we were able to enjoy our food and drinks in the warmth. Everything in the cheese and meat plate was delicious with the wine. We also shared the steak entre and it was cooked perfectly and delicious. If you are in the mood for some good wine and bites definitely check them out.

I had a great time at this wine bar. The vibe was super relaxed, making it easy to unwind. I wanted to try the charred Brussels sprouts, but they were out. Our waiter apologized and brought us Arancini instead, which I hadn't planned on ordering but ended up really enjoying. This was a super nice gesture. We also had the White Bean Hummus and Shrimp Tacos—both were delicious. For drinks, we tried the Sophie Rose and a glass of Chardonnay; both were excellent. Overall, the food was flavorful, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was calming. I'll definitely be back.

The Eastern is the latest venture from the owners of nearby Barrel along Penn Avenue. Although connected, they are very different. When Barrel is dark and more of a tavern feel, The Eastern is light in design and accessible. Here's what's to love:

  1. Design: It's gorgeous. Its midcentury modern design is stunning in all the right ways from the tiles to the lights to the bar in the back. There's a small outdoor patio as well.

  2. Wine list: One of the best wine lists in the city with a menu that guides you to the best wine for you. I ordered a riesling and it was the best I've ever had. They also sell cocktails and a few beers as well. I had the New York sour and it was just okay. I'd stick with wine.

  3. Food: It's not bad! The winner was the octopus salad and the pimento cheese breadboard. The heirloom salad was decent too!

  4. Service: The manager is very friendly and truly wants each customer to have the best experience possible.

Eastern Market was in need of a hang out spot after hours and The Eastern...

Yesterday, I had a pretty underwhelming experience at The Eastern. I understand the bar can get busy, but the service didn't feel very welcoming. When I sat down, I wasn't greeted right away. I was probably there for about 3 to 4 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. Eventually, I was handed a drink menu and a water. Which came from the barback. Honestly, he was more helpful and attentive than the female bartender.

Later on, I noticed a guest sitting a couple seats away was greeted immediately and given water without having to ask. When i asked for my check, I was told it would be brought out after the bartender finished making drinks. I get that it was busy, but the whole interaction made me feel like I wasn't a priority.

I hope this feedback helps improve the overall...
